So, bash on windows 10, how do you guys feel about this? I think its kinda cool, but i'll probably just stick with using linux for that kind of stuff.

Microsoft is trying to lure developers so they can get them under their control too.

No matter how hard they try, Windows won't be Linux.

I really have no idea what Microsoft thinks they're doing going in this direction. The last good version of the software was Windows 7, and I'm not sure why they haven't realized that they would likely be better liked as a company if they would start to move in that direction again.

Anyway, I'm not upgrading anytime soon. By the time there's actually a decent operating system out there, this computer will be obsolete anyway.

I used bash on win 10 a little since I get the preview builds, and its so-so, not as useful as it could be. I feel like it would be more useful if microsoft took this opportunity they have working with the canonical guys to work more on the whole .net portable thing they were talking about a while ago.

portable .NET is another nice facade they're putting on-- maybe command-line apps would work, but anything involving WinForms is going to be tricky because WinForms is pretty much built on top of the Win32/GDI API

They seem to be avoiding doing it by doing all this packed js app stuff ala electron. I don't know why they haven't moved off of winforms to something more universal for .net stuff, though its probably laziness. I really like the .net based languages (much better than java imo) so its kinda disappointing to see microsoft neglect them like this.

But what if Windows 10 was this?

Looks better from an aesthetic point of view, am I right? (Also Classic Theme = performance gain :U )

don't try to derail the thread to your Vista/whatever theme stuff

Looks better from an aesthetic point of view, am I right?

depends on people's tastes, you can't proclaim that as an absolute truth

Umm...I'm not trying to derail the thread, this is entirely Windows 10-related .-.
(Also my Visual Styles are for Windows 8.1.1, and I hope to port them to 10 at some point)

That's why I was asking. The very thought of declaring an opinion as fact hurts to think about D:

Windows 10 reaching a whole new low.

You thought it had already reached the bottom, but it's successfully going further down.

That's their fault though.

I uninstalled the updates required for that, and I believe it stops asking if you cancel the upgrade (like I did)

You know something funny? Well, I sure as Hell do, I was attempting to install a few programs, from a trusted source, of course. It says it won't work on Windows 10, so Windows 10 suggested that I run it in Compatibility Mode for an older OS, so I do, and guess what? Windows 10 decided to make the decision to block the program for me, and told me "This Program has been blocked by an Administrator", what Administrator? I'm the only Administrator on the whole bloody Computer! So, I had to install a different version of the Program...

BZZT! Wrong!

As far as Windows 10 is concerned, Microsoft is the true admin.

You never know, really, given how desperate Microsoft is getting these times.

Where the hell is my Windows 9

honestly, I liked Vista better than this crap. 8 is worse in my opinion.

I use Windows 7, and I don't regret not switching >_> the themes are better anyway, and I can find stuff better lol

Yeah, er, too bad the computer with actual good specs in my house has windows 10.

Bah, my desktop sounds like a jet-engine

And it's a touchscreen HP from 2012, so it shouldn't be acting like your standard 256 MB ram windows 98 computer

there are posts all over the internet about how to remove the GWX crap, selectively update etc... if you want to keep Win7

if you really want to be safe, disable the Windows Update service and ensure that nothing re-enables it

as long as you give Microsoft a door into your computer, they will find new ways to abuse it to sneak Win10 in; it's already proven that you can't trust them anymore and that they will go to any lengths to shove Win10 down your throat

and hey, Windows Update has always been an annoyance either way. I remember it breaking my old laptop because it thought it was a perfect idea to start installing updates when I wanted to turn it off to go take the bus.

I'm still trying to figure out microsoft's logic

Windows 7 --> Windows 8 --> Windows 8.1 --> Windows 10. That isn't how numbers work, and honestly, with the amount of change Windows 10 really should just be Windows 8.2.
