A project like this would be incredibly easy anyways, so I don't know why help is necessary. Everything from the E3 demo is still in the games files.

I've actually tried this before but the game can crash very easily. I've gotten sort of far into the hack but there are a lot of issues with gravity and cameras. I've gotten as far as I can without the game crashing, I stopped working on it because hacking SMG is really frustrating and the edits I made didn't really look good. I might upload a video of it.

you can join the remaining SMG believers in the old abandoned house down there

Just about everything. Still an overall easy beta restoration.

no, not even close to "just about everything"

I take it SunakazeKun and I are the exception, then? .-.

(Okay, I suppose I don't know that SunakazeKun doesn't smoke marijuana, but I'd rather doubt it, and I don't, and I'm certain neither of us are waiting for Glem3 ._. )

There is no reason to start a fight.

I'm not starting a fight

it's a metaphor for saying that those people keep dreaming about SMG hacking and amazing things but very little seems to actually happen

feel free to prove me wrong though

Yes, and no. Yes, because a majority of the planets still exist in the game and most of the objects work largely the same as they did in the E3 Beta. No, because the complexity of getting objects to work as map making is quite difficult. You have to start with a mostly clean slate (that doesn't crash) and have to continually test out your map to make sure it doesn't crash in the process of making it. Also you have the challenge of getting three bosses to work all in the same map (Good luck by the way). There are some things that are missing from the files, like that grass planet before Megaleg, the beta music, the behaviors of Mario and the objects that you want to imitate, the message and gui data...etc. Im rambling on a bit now. Anyway, you get the point.

But of course, getting it to look pretty much like the demo is still no easy feat.

that grass planet before Megaleg
Low-LOD model of that thing still exists, and is (erroneously) used in the final version of SMG1

the beta music
IIRC SunakazeKun has a near-perfect replica of that from...somewhere...

gui
Can be recreated, bar the "walk nearby to talk" behaviour

You can find the beta music on YouTube, actually.

D:

No, I'd probably be using build 4074 as my main OS or something if I did ._.

I just thought it would be funny to add Longhorn UI elements into SMG2 .-.

Also I'm not exactly alone in that:

Super Mario Galaxy hacking is a niche but it deserves to exist.

I very much agree with anthe on this, not a lot of people do it, but some still do and its interesting to see what they make. A lot of SunakazeKun's stuff looks really good and if/when it gets released i'd like to play it, it looks like fun.
