well, we're reaching the point where more power is mostly pointless and really hard to reach

but for obvious commercial reasons, they need to come up with constant novelty

I know how that feels. It really sucks, but I wouldn't worry too much. Those graphics cards are low end so its usually just re-brandings. Now if it were higher end 960+ then they actually include more things into the new ones, except you're AMD who havent added anything from 270X+ to 370X+.

haha

alcohol can be fun though, if used moderately

also, was it an actual debate, or just a dumb school debate where you're forced on one side regardless of your opinion?

It was a school debate but we got to pick what side we were on, but I was forced to take the class. Unlike my old school we don't get to choose our electives where I am now. I was hoping to take a computer class and, they told me "We only do that for the higher grades." when at my old school I would have gotten to take a computer class. Not to mention some of the kids don't like me because I won't put up with their shit and, get them expelled.

Taking computer science in grade 10, 11 and 12 really helped me out. Right now for example,we have this class called engineering computation, people that don't know how to code have to learn everything and its just another class, but for me its like a pass time without having to worry, it's only python.

most important thing: hide the fact that you're good at these things

otherwise, expect a swarm of noobs around you:

"how do you do <overly vague thing>"
"can you help me its not working"
"can you do the assignment for me"
"can i take your code ill change the names"

if you fall into that, you're in deep shit; it's much easier to deal with noobs over the internet than IRL

Welp.

...oh hey, the GT610? I currently use one of those, the 2GB version specifically. I barely play any games that would use a lot of resources from it, but it works nicely.

I've mostly hid the fact that im good at these things, though I still happen to be around noobs just due to them being in one of my classes.

I think now is a good time to tell a story of a kid in my school who I will refer to as Franklin (not his real name of course), and he's one of those noobs. He's not that great at programming but he thinks he is amazing because he made a website, one with half its code stolen from online tutorials. He is full of himself, and its hilarious to watch sometimes when he starts trying to explain things. For example, one day he was talking about how good at computers he was and then it turned into a pissing contest about who out of the three kids sitting in the back was the best, and the argument he used against both of them was "I bet you don't even know what an IP is". Its downright cringy sometimes, and its gotten worse now thats he's trying to explain linux. Though probably the worst thing he does, is drive people away from learning programming by throwing a bunch of complicated vocabulary at them and then further over complicates it by explaining it in the worst way possible for someone who's new to computer science. Thats the one thing that really gets my goat more than anything else he does.

Sorry if this felt a bit ranty, I don't think it is and didn't mean it to, but that could just be me.

Yeah. Luckily the computation labs are done separately, no assignments, just in class, 3 hour labs where you program something they tell you to do. And then theres the midterms and exam. So without assignments I only have to worry about people asking me for help with Matlab, which is annoying when people ask for help...

sounds good

all programming-related exams should take place on computers, too, rather than on paper (unrealistic working conditions because no internet/etc, can't test code, and generally writing code on paper is a fucking pain)

[...]I end up alone...

So does the class's number one derpass, some little badger who looks dumb, speaks weirdly (sometimes borderline aggressive), and kind of avoids people (he's not shy, he's just a dork).

Guess who I end up paired with.

in the end, turns out the little dork is with someone else

that's nice and all, but now, who am I supposed to be with? surprise :D

probably schools in general; school in France is stuck 50 years behind (like most of the government really, they're barely discovering computers), but from what I know there are very few countries that have a decent, somewhat modern school system

school systems also tend to be ego-filled, atleast in France, "we're perfect, if there's a problem it comes from the student", "we're smarter than you, try to prove us wrong and you'll regret it" and other counterproductive ways of thought are commonplace

we go to school to learn shit, not to be nicely formatted little soldiers; they don't encourage learning and they force their shit down your throat with nearly unlimited power

teachers in France can't get fired unless they do something terrible like raping their students; there's nothing you can do against a dictator teacher while they can get you in trouble ridiculously easily (and then the whole system turns against you because "we're perfect, remember" and the student is automatically wrong)

tl;dr school in France is going down the crapper and needs a major overhaul, preferably before illiterate idiots are in control
