I checked a few random videos and don't see those extra icons, what makes them appear?

Apparently, these Icons were part of the "Heartbeat" Chrome Extension.
It's a nice little Extension, which shows me some useful things on other peoples' Videos, like Tags, Analytics, etc.
But at the same time, it annoys me with crap nobody else can see or use, like a "Freedom! Dashboard", or "Website" Tab on your Channel.

sounds like a crapware extension

reminds me of that issue with useful Chrome extensions being bought and turned into ad-injecting garbage, and that went mostly unnoticed because Chrome autoupdated extensions, does that shit still happen?

Yes, it does.
Apparently, forced Auto-Updating is the cool shit at Google, as this also exists with Chrome, Android, etc.

I would rather switch to Windows 10 for Mobile permanently (I have a Windows Phone, and I randomly switch back and forth between Windows 10 and Android), but that one is known for its privacy shit.

iOS looks nice, but it's very limited also.
I'm not as concerned about the whole iMessenging problem, as nobody here cares about SMS at all, anyway.

yet only topnotch phones get the last Android updates-- Android needs to be built into device-specific ROMs

imagine the mess if PC OSes worked that way

the most recent update my phone got is... the stagefright fix and nothing else.

I'm afraid there are no appealing solutions as far as smartphones are concerned-- Android means you accept Google's crap, Windows Phone means you accept Microsoft's ass-probing and them taking decisions for you, iOS means you accept being controlled by Apple...

the only 'good' solution is basically being an alien nerd

Not necessarily, you can also choose Ubuntu Touch OS, Sailfish OS, Tizen, Firefox OS, or even BlackBerry OS.

And I'm sure, there was one OS that used KDE for Phones (and even ran Desktop Apps?), but I'm not sure which one.

Not necessarily. At least, my Samsung Android phone always asked permission if I wanted to use one of Google's apps. Of course, I said no to most of them except the Google Play Store. If you disable the localization feature (something like that) you're good to go. Mostly. There are some of Google's annoying apps (like Google+) that keep in the background but most can be disabled without any problems (and it's not like they can actually use any of your information without your agreement).

Oh, so that's why some phones don't update the Android version? That's kind of lame. You could look for a near top-notch phone that's still cheap, but that's most likely going to be just a temporary solution.

Hah, I guess.

Even old phones aren't that much better. Some "recent" J2ME phones still are updated often enough to access the internet (see late Nokia S40 phones). Mobile browsing is going to be somewhat more difficult, but not impossible by any means. There's quite a few apps for you to choose, and it's the closest you'll get to a modern phone that isn't a modern phone.

I completely forgot those were a thing. o_O

Dunno about those other systems, I haven't heard/seen much about them.

yeah, and since vendors are responsible for providing official Android ROMs, it gives them carte blanche to enforce planned obsolescence

although they're not all that bad; for example HTC did give out an update for my phone for the stagefright fix, and they allow you to unlock their bootloader

Sometimes, if you have slow Internet, you'll get to the point when your Browser fails to load the CSS File.
It may happen on any Site.

I don't thinnk that slow internet connection is the reason.
Every other page seems fine. Also happens with edge and firefox.

I didn't say this will happen on every Website, but knowing how heavy YouTube is, the Browser you were using went like, "You know what? I've had enough, fuck CSS".

That reminds me when YouTube had a beta feature called Feather that made simpler webpages for users with slow internet to use. Unfortunately, they decided it's not worth it. Why? I have no idea. But I have to say, it was a great feature when I used it back then.

So, remember when YouTube was introducing a new channel layout? Remember how they tested it with a few channels before publishing it? I think this is happening again, maybe, because my channel layout changed when I viewed it yesterday. Here it is, but in case you can't see it, this is how it looks. And apparently there's a reddit thread for it too.

The "Uploads" and "Created Playlists" titles are clickable and they go to their respective pages, but that's it. Most other things aren't there. I can change it back to the previous one by including the What to Watch Next page, but I can't put the channel feed back there.

You know, at univ I learnt some interesting shit in a course about computer learning.

Like, for example, a news site publishes a news post but they don't know what would be the best title. What do they do? Select like 10 titles and pick one at random for each visitor. Then they measure how many hits each title gets, and in the end they retain the best one.

I don't know if that's true, but it's interesting nethertheless.

Maybe Youtube is doing similar things with their layouts and shit, although I don't really know how they'd measure whether or not people like it.

Yeah, I have been wondering why so many Channels were removing their Navigation completely, but now it turned out it's not them to decide that...

YouTube really is making other peoples' lives harder, since Google bought it.

It's calledA/B testing, and lots of companies do it, hell, Google gives you a tool to do it on your site.

I got that youtube channel theme change too, and it really is ugly and not that user friendly imo. I've also had this other really weird issue with youtube lately where the audio will desync from the video. Its not like its an issue with the actual video file that was uploaded, because the issue can be fixed for a little bit by rewinding the video.
