The fonts themselves are the same size as with the normal layout.

The mobile layout has a viewport meta tag so that phones don't scale it down to make a standard-size page fit in their small screen.

Also, aside from iPads, how would I detect tablets? On Android, browsers are the same no matter what your device is...

Appparently, from what I've read you can actually detect this.

Mobile Android has "mobile" in its UA string, tablet Android does not.

Let me just actually confirm this...

Edit: Confirmed. Mobile Android claims to be Mobile Safari in its user agent.
(Wow, UA strings are really...stupid.)

The object database looks terrible on the mobile layout for me...
The text is cut off, and stuff.

The object database isn't made for mobile devices anyway.

It lists thousands of objects at once, eating all your mobile bandwidth.

I think that there should also be some stylistic changes, possibly, like changing the long bar of places to navigate to with pages to something like TABS, IDK really, jsut a suggestion

Sometimes it looks decent, sometimes, not so much.

Problem with that bar (or any part of the board layout) is that it has to remain compatible with all the board themes.

But yeah, we'd need a cool, modern theme. Almost all our themes look like... an Acmlmboard.

Would you mind editing it so that it has the normal site on when visiting on an ipad?

Im getting tired of switching every time my safari crashes.

I should fix it the way Nina suggested, yep.

In the meantime, I set the viewmode forcing cookie to stay for one year, rather than expiring when the browser is closed.

Some comments from using this layout on a phone...
- The text is a little too small
- Space things out more, it's way too cluttered in places (new markers for instance)
- Maybe prevent zooming as it's annoying when selecting text boxes
- Page links are TINY
- Breadcrumbs and page links need improvements as they are currently...rather broken.
- Even though you don't like this, use more icons, this is better than text on narrow screens.

Also, the top navigation really SUCKS. Some JavaScriot could be used here to hide navigation/user links behind touchable buttons.

The mobile layout specifies that it should be rendered at a scale of 1, at the width of the device's screen. The effects of this really depend on the device. The text is fine on my phone.

I agree about the rest of what you said, except preventing zooming, because I don't see any reason to forbid that. It also wouldn't help if the text is too small.

The header could use some reorganization, yeah. Even in the normal layout.

What I mean with preventing zooming is for textareas, when selecting a textarea on Android (in Chrome), the page zooms making it harder to get an overwiev of what you are typing.

Well I haven't noticed this on my phone, that must be a setting of your browser. I also don't see how I could prevent it from happening...

Here is an examplw of clutter. I can't quickly scan this listing like I can pn the desktop version, suggestions:
- kill the second column with fire
- space rows more
- put 'new' markers in a separate column
- improve page links (I'll elaborate more on this when I'm not on a touch keyboard, I got some ideas)

Now that I'm at it, posting needs to be improved greatly.
- The text box should be on a page that you can't scroll
- the post toolbar should have a mobile optimized version
- the submit button should be part of the toolbar, perhaps right-aligned, this is to conserve space.
- the full width of the text box should always be visible and so should the post toolbar, scrolling should never happen.
