oh and I didn't tell you guys how shit at univ went lately: started discovering the new options for this semester (or rather, the ones I was given)



yesterday: web programming

it's going to be about coding a sorta mini Excel replica in Javascript, okay, not terribly bad (except maybe for pushing the trend of inefficient web programming? well whatever, they gotta make us do something in this class after all)



today: optimization ("optimisation continue et combinatoire" in French, whatever that translates to)

"so you're going to learn to optimize code? cool"

no you idiot, optimizing code is for poor kids who can't upgrade their 486, these days the programming trends are "lol who cares about resource usage, you have tons of them" and more generally coding things by bashing your dick against the keyboard and more hipster-coding bullshit, which explains many things

so, back to that optimization option: of course, it's miles away from computer code, it's all brain-masturbating, it's basically the continuation of the algorithmics crap I hated

well, some of the problems do make sense... but actually doing the shit with their algorithms and shit feels like trying to decipher an ancient language

like "given two rolls of metal (with their sizes), you want to make smaller rolls, determine how to best fit them", this problem is something you could very well meet in real life... but I'm from the "try possible arrangements and select the best" school (hey, it's probably quicker than doing all the brain masturbation they teach you)


the best part? how the optimization crap will be graded; no exams or anything, but instead study a paper (of what? time will tell, but I can predict this will be a pain in the ass)

ads everywhere, DLC, in-app purchases, app store; all of those may sound more or less shitty (and reek of commercial crap), some downright unacceptable (the ads)

but Android came and made this a standard for mobile platforms

now, Windows is becoming a bridge between PCs and mobile platforms, which is a perfect occasion to bring those commercial trends to PCs



it's also steps towards controlling everybody:

* ensure everybody is using the same OS, and all the platforms are more or less the same
* feed them with ads, make them consume
* all the files and shit on the cloud
* eventually, software served from the cloud too (might even become that all the work is done on the cloud which just serves you a video/audio stream, your computer basically being no more than a dumb terminal)

(wouldn't be happening before a while though considering the current state of the internet access market)
