if Linux is what you believe in, join that force, help the Wine project, convince app authors to care about portability, etc... :)

reminds me of the typical reactions to apps that are bound to one OS:

Windows-only: DO YOU NOT CARE ABOUT PORTABILITY YOU MICROSOFT FANBOY PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE WHY COPORATIONS ARE SO BIG OMG ASFADSFAGSFGAGS

Linux-only: "but I can't use this, I use Windows" "SWITCH TO LINUX YOU MICROSOFT FANBOY WINDOWS IS SHIT AND YOU ARE AN IDIOT FOR USING IT"

Mac-only: well... turns out no real programmer makes Mac-only apps, because... real programmers use real computers

BTW, Linux is better than Windows but I can't use it because I think I can't use ROM Hacking tools on Linux. I use Windows 7, but I might start a Linux Virtual Machine and test the ROM Hacking tools there.

Also I had fun making custom GTK themes on Linux.

As a Linux user, you would be surprised at how much you can get done with wine*. Plus, you can easily make a Windows 7 VM with Virtual box.

You will need to do quite some tinkering to get everything in the OS to run the way you want it to, but overall, I don't regret switching from 10.
*I don't know a lot about mono, but I think you can use mono instead of wine if it's a C# .net program.

Do games run in Wine, though, and is it performant?

or so say all those who like to feel smugly superior just because they don't use Windows

neither OS is 'better' or anything, they're different and each has its faults

as for the 'but windoze constantly crashes' argument, it's decades old, any recent Windows version (including ye olde XP) is stable enough to run for ages

Many games actually run really well in WINE, some even without tinkering with winetricks or other utilities. I just played though the first Borderlands on it without any issues for instance.

Microsoft is just going to drop Windows 7 like they did XP and, then companys will most likely stop making the newest versions of they'r applications and, programs compatible with it. Extended support for Windows 7 ends on 14 January 2020 so enjoy it while it lasts. After that most of use will probably use Wine or, some custom OS, but that depends on what happens in the next five years. Actually why don't we just make our own custom OS?

Not sure if you're joking or not, but that's pretty much what Linux does. People use Linux as a starting point, and make their own custom distribution based off of that.

or follow Marionumber1 in his Darkside OS adventures, that OS is supposed to be compatible with both Linux and Windows APIs

My main OS is Windows because it has the most compatibility with everything I want to do with the most ease of use. For the few Linux-only things I want to do, I have a Raspberry Pi. Yeah it's small and not powerful but it's more than sufficient for what I need it for. But really the only way to do it (to please everyone) is to just have all 3 OSs, whether in separate computers or in VMs (on a fast host), but unfortunately the only drawback of the latter is your host has to be a Mac for it to be legal.

my old laptop has a Win7/Ubuntu double boot, although that was because I needed it for school shit

aside from that, it's pretty much Windows-only around here for now

Mac related things can fuck themselves, too; my dad has an iPad but that's all (and that thing has probably not been used in ages)

So, while all 4 2DS colours are still not out here, Tsutaya already decided to have an awesome discount: From 9980 Yen to 9980 Yen!

I know that a discount might encourage you to buy something, but they're pushing it too far there :P

(do not say "for sale $500", say "for sale $500 instead of $1500")

Maybe it's supposed to be ¥9.900, they've spelt it wrong.

So I got up last night to snack on some french fries I left on my plate from dinner everything's fine right? Well no a few minutes after I ate them I started to feel funny. Then the next day I wake up today and, I feel like I want to die. Well my mother tells me "I hope you didn't eat those french fires last night they were cooked in old grease." are you kidding me? My stomach has finally stopped hurting.

Speaking of that:

So my parents made me stay home and I was pissed because my friends were going to my friend's house. Then my brother drove me there. Then I threw up nearing the end of our visit. Then my dad, instead of being like "you ok?" he says this:

see this is why you stay home

And then he said that if I don't stay home when he says so, I'll throw up.

i guess i shouldn't go to school then because dad always wants me to stay home and be 2kewl

fuck

What a moronic, uncaring and, illogical thing for him to say.

oops my laughing might have broken the board

[14:30:17] <StapleButter> regardless, that's shit parenting. Instead of worrying about his son's health he's just raging over the fact his order wasn't followed

parenting lesson: your child's health is more important than your authority

@saltypepper This is such incredible logic. What kind of parent doesn't care about the wellbeing of their children?

...also, why does he think you'll throw up every time you go outside without permission? That makes no sense.

he doesn't actually think that

he's just associating two things: A) the fact his kid deliberately didn't follow his direction, and B) the fact his kid threw up, which happened after A happened

he's turning the scenario into "B was caused by A" hoping the kid will be enough of an idiot to believe that and never do it again

of course, it'd be much better to know why the kid threw up and tell him how to actually avoid it, instead of treating him like a moron in the name of "protecting" him from life
