Yes however I would imagine that SOMEHOW, any language should be able to store data to new files (to keep repo settings and other data) and read/download data files from the internet.
It doesn't need to be complex. then you just add a scanning function for the xml and stuff. I probably will help you with this since this is a VERY complex thing and it's bound to take a while. But if it works and we can pull it off, then the average person may never need to download again. That's kinda the point. take out the complexity of setting it all up or even have download links working and focus on using the programs themselves. This might also be a way to send out game file downloads that are important, and patches that are VERY important. Of course, like I said, this all is super complex ____________________ "I hate playing musical chats" ~ Quote of the month |

Well, then I have some questions...
- Why would you make a launcher for mostly cross-platform apps only run on Windows? - Why would you shit XMLs all over the place, or let alone use XML files at all? A simple comma-separated format should be more than sufficient for a simple package manager. - What are you gonna do about dependencies? Some tools require Java, others Python, etc. Will you check for these and install them or something? |

if all these are exes then you don't really need dependencies. Plus most programs in this aren't cross platform, like I said they are exes and were for windows. the only things would be whitehole and wiiexplorer.
However, that's why I was talking about a description box popping up after you click the program so you can find and install dependencies if there are any ____________________ "I hate playing musical chats" ~ Quote of the month |

Either way, a better packaging system should be used.
For example, a repository could be one folder containing archives of the tools, for instance whitehole-1.0.zip, then (since you love XML so much, let's say) you have an XML file containing information on the specific packages. [source=xml] <!-- ... --> You would have these in a directory structure like this: [source] / stable/ whitehole-1.0.zip anarchy-1.1.zip beta/ whitehole-git823432sda2384923.zip ... stable.xml beta.xml[/source] The tool, when checking for updates would then download the latest versions of the reposito(y's|ies') databases, check the locally installed packages' versions, compare them to the versions ccurrently in the repo and update the local packages if needed. |

I could see that working, but even so, we still need a system of reading the data from these files ____________________ "I hate playing musical chats" ~ Quote of the month |

Doesn't .NET's standard libraries let you read XML files?
(I have never used .NET, but I thought it did) |

I'm pretty sure his programs work fine on a MAC.
I don't know for sure though. ____________________ a |

I'm just asking, because the GUI looks windows specific. ____________________ |

Nah, none of his programs run on Mac. I just have to use a Virtual PC. Especially since many of those are .exes and require OpenGL. (Metro is also an indicator) Status: It was really, really fun, guys - thanks for the ride!

I see. Then he has to make it work on a MAC then. ____________________ a |
