<MrRean> it shouldn't be that overcomplicated
<MrRean> use 1-1 lighting, a single required background, and take the image when it spawns (even though soem don't need this)
<MrRean> bam. Image.

Here is a build from roadrunnerwmc that I've had for a while
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_yBl-184usmY2U1ZE5fVkZTZG8/view?usp=sharing

Thanks very much, but when I select the "Course" folder from my NSMB2 Dump it tells me it does not have the required files in it. Also there are some errors at the startup telling me something went wrong while loading some sprites. Can you help me (I'm feeling dumb while writing this)?

@cmdj13

You need to copy and paste the Unit folder into the Course folder, for editing in reggie.

----
@MrRean

I'm not quite sure how you are disagreeing with me. You seem to be agreeing with me.

----

Request: Could someone who knows how to hex edit a level:
edit 1-1 to add a load of sprites with blocks for reference and add pipes that lead to pipes near the sprite, so this doesn't take forever? :P

----

Also, are there any priorities? All the world 1 sprites or something?

Thanks, now it's working! :)

Don't think the lighting settings are documented yet, so stick with 1-1 for now.

Zone lighting in NSMB2 is determined by each zone's background. The information for which backgrounds trigger which lighting conditions is hardcoded, unfortunately.

Here's a list of all of the hardcoded background/lighting data. "1-1 lighting" is actually "Basic_Player00", and any zones with backgrounds that trigger that lighting according to the list should be fine to use for sprite images.

Are you talking about the DLC levels?

The level files are not included in the romfs. They are stored on your SD card, but are encrypted.
I don't know if someone managed to decrypt them yet, but if you got the level files, there is no problem to edit them.
But then you had to re-encrypt them to play. Thats defenetly too much effort for just a few levels.

But I have to admit creating 3-Level-Packs would be cool, especially for those who don't want to create a whole hack.

If you have a CIA of the DLC then export the romfs then all the files from that romfs you copy into the NSMB2 Romfs then with the code.bin from the cia use those two files In hans.
Atleast that was what I was told. Apparently it has worked for some people so Im going to try it when I can get a xorpad for the DLC

@RoadrunnerWMC
Thanks, that is really helpful.

@TheToxicRyu
There is are two special versions of NSMB2. One is Europe, one is USA. They both include the DLC levels in the romfs, and they use them. They were included on the console in certain 3DS packs.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 Gold Edition (USA)
New Super Mario Bros. 2 Special Edition (Europe)

Just realised Reggie! Next doesn't support entrance editing. Not happy about that. :( Will CoinkKiller support entrance editing or does already support it? I can't test it because I can't compile CoinKiller by myself, there are always errors with Qt.

It will support entrance editing. Though, it doesn't support any editing yet.
I know, the reggie nsmb2 fork is limiting. But you can do some stuff...

Will it also support zone editing?

I just made a commit that adds a ton of sprite images Hiccup made.

Namely:
  • ? Switch
  • ! Switch
  • Trampoline
  • Bob-omb
  • Parabomb
  • Micro Goomba
  • Bony Goomba
  • Dry Bones
  • Giant Dry Bones
  • Koopa Paratroopa (green/red)
  • Lava Bubble
  • Grounded Piranha Plant
  • Swoop
  • Wiggler

I also added new icons:

[image]

They are made by Icons8 (don't say I'm not allowed to edit them, I askd them).

It seems this editor is getting better every day. I would imagine once saving is implemented it will be on par if not better than reggie next is atm.
