Oh I get it. I will be sure to do that once I get the card. :)

This is how I would do it (example from NSMBds):
[image]
The grey block represents the location of the sprite, moved by the amount of blocks specified by the number of coins beside it and the direction specified by the side of the block coin line starts on.
This is the sprite image produced (with sprite position info):
[image]

Note: this NSMBds sprite image is probably bad, since it was made using an emulator.

Remember to put the green block on layer 2, otherwise a part of signboards and maybe other stuff will be covered by it.

Okay. Looks understandable!

When you take the short videos, could you send them to me directly, so I can decide which frame to use? (I think some sprites are in a T-pose in the very first frame/s, which might not represent the sprite very well)

Of course. I should be getting the card in 2 months and a few days. Do they update the system when installing the card on your 3DS device? I know it's a stupid question, but yeah.

Anyway like I said, I'd love to help out in any way I can in the NSMB2 hacking environment. :)

They probably wont, as the software doesn't need to be changed and they would need to alter your Wi-Fi settings for one thing. You could email them to ask them to make sure they don't.

Thanks again for your support.

The best, but dunno if it's possible: take a snapshot of the sprite against a fixed background of one color, then another identical snapshot against another color. That way we could completely recover transparency by looking at the differences between the two (and writing some good code to do that).
I wrote a program to do exactly that, for NSMBW. I used it to get perfect semitransparent water images for Reggie Next, among other things.

I don't think NSMB2 sprites are antialiased, so all of this is probably unnecessary. However, I can put the code on GitHub if I'm wrong and it would be useful for NSMB2.

--snip--

I use a technique similar to that, but I usually put a stone block directly below the sprite and another directly to the left or right of it. That way, it's easy to find the sprite's exact position: just stretch the blocks in an image editor and look at where they cross.

berp

you're right, they're not antialiased

weird though, it's not like the 3DS comes with the same shitty GPU as the DS

How would you go about getting the models from the game?

using the capture card to take screenshots of them as explained and discussed in this whole thread, maybe?

And now I am realizing that nobody was ever trying to dump anything.

Thank you.

Some sprites are anti aliased:
* Vines (this is okay, cause they are 2D, so have/can be ripped)
* Burner flames
* Other fire?

I've updated the sprite rules.

Added some sprite images that possibly use the 1-1 lighting (they are from grass/sky levels).

I know have rom hacks working, so all my images will follow the guidelines. Progress will be slow though, as I have to keep rebuilding the RomFS, basically every time I want to make a new image.

@iZackefx
This doesn't mean your video capture isn't needed, as some things need to be captured after the first frame.

Tip: Set up multiple pipes so you can get three images every go. Also, is it possible to compile a list of either every sprite we have or every one we don't?

Every one we don't is stuff that isn't on the imgur album I linked, or on github I guess (if the github ones follow the rules).

About the pipes: I would, if reggie nsmb2 fork had entrance editing.

The NSMBW 1-1 has about 3 pipes (I think). Not 100% sure if 1-1 lighting, but you would be able to do three at a time using edits of that.
