Note: The version below is extremely outdated, the latest version is always available for download from this thread.

Remember what Kuribo64's original topic was? There we go again!

SM64DSe is back! With many improvements from Fiachra, great thanks to him.

Changelog

* Fixed model importer, you should meet little to no collision issues now
* Model importer is also a lot more flexible, you can assign collision settings per-material and such
* Ability to export the course model, too
* Ability to export and replace an object's model. This will only work right for objects that don't have animation data, though.
* Texture animations editor. You can now make textures of the level model be animated. This also makes it possible to replace any level's model.
* Text editor, with a nice interface. May not be compatible with Jap ROMs though.
* KCL editor
* and more

Important notes

About model importing: if you replace the model of a level that had water or any other animated texture, remember to remove the corresponding texture animations. If a texture animation points to a non-existing material name, the game will crash.

Downloads

* v2.1: Download
* Older versions: see the archives

Have fun! :)

Amazing job, I applaud it all. I need to use this tool sometime in the future.

Wow Mega-Mario, that looks great. I do hope SM64DS hacking makes a comeback now :)

TBH, if possible, a lot of these features would be welcome in Whitehole, especially the 3D model editing and importing utilities.

Great release. Do you have any information on fog? It's a small detail still preventing full flexibility of level layout in the game.

I don't know about the fog color and detensy, but the fog enable flag is in the material settings (of the bmd). In mkds the fog color and detensy is stored in the nkm.

As Gericom said, the model specifies which polygons get fog and which don't.

Fog color and density is controlled by type 8 objects. IIRC there's one per area. I don't remember the format, but they're 8 bytes each, and they contain the fog start and end distances in fixed-point, and the fog color in 8bit RGB format.

I guess I could add an interface to the editor to modify them.

did you will implement vertex colors?

Apache Thunder

I think it does already. But the main issues is that normal OBJ files don't support vertex colors. He said in the dev thread that there's extensions to the OBJ format that can add that. I'm stuck with the standard OBJ exporter that 3DS Max comes with so no way to tell if the editor will import them correctly. Perhaps a better solution to this is allow us to alter the vertex colors from the editor. Perhaps while in the level mesh importer dialog or in the main editor with it's own editing mode button to switch to/from it. But I've already mentioned this in the dev thread. ;)

Hmmm. maybe you could export your model to blender and add the vertex colors. there's a plugin that allows you to export special obj.

Have you ever tried it? It won't look like it looks in blender in any other 3D modeller,like sketchup will not texture vertex colored faces, 3DS max seems to work fine, but it mismatches the mesh that is vtx colored, long story cut short, sketchup is incompatible with anything that has to do with vtx I've tries this in sonic heroes.

This is currently being (and should be) discussed in the Editor Development thread. It is already possible to import vertex colours by importing models using the DAE format.

I wanted to make it clear that this runs perfectly under Wine in OS X.

Just download and install Wine from http://winebottler.kronenberg.org and run the executable for SM64DSe. I have yet to find any incompatibilities whatsoever.

Just putting this out there for all of the potential Mac users who want (or may want in the future) to be able to edit SM64DS levels.
