Yay, stuff is different. One small step for player, one giant leap for...screw it, enough quoting famous events in recorded history. So...what do you think? Is this the End of Glory, the Beginning of the end, or a new way to MAKE YOURSELF A HERO?

Also, this isn't really about this particular hack (which, regrettably, is just a file swap), I'm more aiming to gather support and maybe find someone who'd like to take a crack at cracking open the game's file formats. NTSC-U disks of the game can't be dumped as an ISO, but the files can be ripped using SMGextractor, oddly enough. The main format that needs investigating is RPK, which I believe is an archive. Looks like they contain RDX9 models, according to the one person who has already tried to help out with this.

If you want to read up on what's gone down so far, go here. It's mostly just a few theories being thrown around, a fair-sized lump of optimism, and some confusion, but that's where the discussion is really happening. If you want to register over there, don't fear the idea of Necroing/Bumping the thread, as over there, such atrocious actions DON'T EXIST. (AKA everyone who has registered is free to comment on any thread, no matter how old, provided it isn't locked.)

Oh, and yes, I am known as "rob55rod" over there, just to clear up any possible confusion.

I hope this works...

I'd rather you don't use this board to distribute images of the game. Even if it's considered 'abandonware'. Most boards would treat even NES ROMs as warez you see.

Images of the game? Who said anything about images? Are you referring to ISOs? I'm not sharing an ISO, just its contents.

Wait, is that the same thing?

Also, I was planning to distribute the files on the other board whenever possible, so...

RPK is a standardized format by EA, it's compressed with a form of LZSS compression. Trust me, I already tried dissecting Monopoly 2 days ago :P

The game's contents also fall under the copyright.

Wait, what? It is?

...tried? As in, with any degree of success?

...which I wasn't going to share here. By the way, the files CAN be manually extracted via SMGExtractor, just...nothing seems to be able to dump an ISO proper.

Not yet, haven't dedicated enough time to translate the assembly. When games don't run in Dolphin it's kinda difficult :P

I can provide the entire NTSC-U disk's contents

This is unclear.

Oh, that's unfortunate. Spore Hero runs ridiculously well in most Dolphin builds, but I'm assuming you're probably not going to buy a game solely to research it along with another game, nor pirate it for the same reason. Well I find that a lot of games that run in older versions of Dolphin don't in newer builds. Both of the Conduit games do that. But that's kinda offtopic :P

Uh...how so? Should I specify that I can't do so here, and that I mean the files in an ISO, not the ISO itself?

It sounds like "free warez juice, just ask me".

Okay...? That still doesn't tell me how to fix it, just what needs fixing and why. Look, extracting solutions from problem descriptions isn' my strong suit, okay?

Screw it, I'll just take that out entirely and make it known when necessity approaches.
