Those of you saying this powerup doesn't create any interesting level design aren't thinking about the possibilities... this is actually a very interesting powerup, since it requires you to keep moving to build up speed. It seems like jumping momentum isn't carried over (at least when long-jumping), but a stage where you have to outrun something while avoiding obstacles so you don't get slowed down could be really fun.

I would say this opens the door to so many new possibilities, my idea for a new custom powerup would be a bullet bill one, which would be possible, albeit very difficult to program.

- Torpedo Mario which makes Mario shot through the water (faster then a Koopa Shell). Makes him also able to kill enemies.

- Bulb Mario, with the same ability as Glow Yoshi.

- Hammer Mario from Newer

- Metal Cap from SM64

- Double Cherry from SM3DW

- Boomerang Mario from SM3DL

Calm down guys, it's going to take at least a year before we're able to do anything semi-impressive. Literally all this is is renaming an object (though right now it's replacing the spring mushroom) and then connecting /EXISTING/ functions to reproduce the effects of rainbow mario. It's going to be a VERY VERY long time before we're able to make our own code.
I don't want you all to get hyped and then be disappointed when nothing happens for months.

And clearly you can modify such behaviors, so couldn't you remove the sound and have the game load a custom model that is invisible?



Also, are you able to change powerup durations yet? *dreams of pseudo-infinite Ice Mario with music*

Here's an idea, kinda touched on by Aurum, why not create a powerup that basically applies the same functions that a shell gives mario under water? Eg., you touch the powerup, a dolphin suit or something (lol) and then when you go underwater, mario has the effects of holding a shell without really holding it. As we get more advanced with this sort of stuff, we could add our own animations to it too. The behavior of the shell works perfectly with something like a dolphin, and you already lose the ability when you get hit. We'd just have to make sure you don't lose the shell by shaking. Hell, you could use the effect that the boost rings in slimy spring give mario to have the same effect. Could make for some really fun swimming levels.

My thoughts on that:
Love it. Shell while Swimming, Red shell while holding down A underwater (marginally faster), and icy retextured fireballs that freeze stuff like brr bits while spinning on land or in water. There, Penguin Mario!

Rainbow Mario can walk on lava too. It's just to remove the speed, the rainbow effects and the invisible power.

Um...the walking on lava power is the invincibility.
