Some may recognize this from other forums but for those who don't, I am mainly a hacker for SNES games but I sometimes go fancy and try something new. For today however, I want to introduce you all to my Super Mario Kart hack I've been working on. I have prepped a couple screenies for it. So I am curious if you all like it, if it's good enough or if you can get remotely excited for it.

At any rate, here are the screens:

Current progress:

Mushroom cup: 5/5*
Flower cup: 4/5*
Star cup: 1/5
Special cup: 1/5
Battle stages: 1/4

* One or more stages are going to be changed in the future.

Looks pretty nice, except for that last screenshot, where the textures look a bit odd. Then again, I've never actually played SMK, so I don't really know how the original ones looked xD

It's because of how the graphics are shown sideways. Believe me, it's much better when you actually drive on it.

Looks nice, kinda off-topic here but: since you mentioned you mainly hack snes games what other games than super mario kart do you hack?

Oh nice! I think I saw your thread at SMWC! I like the palettes you chose :)

Super Mario World, I also am trying to hack Harvest Moon and Zelda aLttP. I once tried Super Metroid but that left me with confusion, I would love to be able to create a Super Metroid hack one day, but for now my main focus on hacking is Super Mario World, This and Mario 64.

Thank you, and yes, this was also on SMWC. I just do a system that not both forums get the exact same screenshots. Pretty good system if I do say so myself.

I wonder, do you have some videos? I think I saw the desert track one. But would love to see more :)

That one with the GV tileset with clouds looks reallly nice :o

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AS7PA4WTzA&list=UUbWIc_s4M89w73sbc42LamQ This one is old and most stages are already changed around with but I suppose this is as alpha as my videos go.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcXz3Z9mkzw&list=UUbWIc_s4M89w73sbc42LamQ This is the updated version of the same stages if I am correct, but it's still old and, like I said before, already changed around with. It does hold up better than the one before

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGMDnCFsZvA&list=UUbWIc_s4M89w73sbc42LamQ This is the Bit Road, who replaces rainbow road in this game. This is old footage, you can compare to the screenie that my tiles are a lot bigger and easier to see right now. The core design is still the same so I suppose this video still holds up pretty well.

And these are all the vids I have about it, because my screen recorder broke and I can't find a new one that's good.

Oh well, I think I saw them all.

I use zsnes recording feature to dump into an AVI. You could try it. but you will need to rescale it because the native resolution of the SNES is small, and youtube fails to stretch it and it looks bad in fullscreen.

I am actually really clueless when it goes to recording with Zsnes, I don't even know how to make it so the video becomes an AVI. Can you tell me how?

Its really easy to record stuff. But you will need mencoder.exe and lame_enc.dll

I use the latest zsnes version.

On the emulator options, go to misc. tab and select movie opt.

A windows will pop out and click record. Now when you resume the game it will start recording. When youre finished, go to the same window and click stop.

On the same window, a tab will appear on top and will say "dumping"

ON the right, select all 3 checkbox, and on the left, select the codec you want to use. I still not sure in this step because I use xvid lossless codec and I think its not included in zsnes, if it is, then select it and click on start.

I think I might be missing something, but there are plenty of tutorials on youtube (I watched one) on how to record.

Good luck :)

Video is going a bit troublesome and I have nothing to really show that I don't have screenshots of. I might wait a little with the video and just make some levels first and make a video of that instead.

It wouldn't be bad to have video footage of stuff you've shown screenshots of.
