If you're talking about the entrance objects, that should be fixed in the latest revision, parameter 3 was a duplicate of the Y-rotation and would overwrite, meaning changing Y-rotation directly did nothing.

No, views. The yellow things. Try exporting, then importing a level. Then, play it. See what the camera does. This is the third time I'm mentioning this.

So, through a bit of thinking, I might have a Zelda style level. Original, and made in sketch up probably, unless someone with experience in blender can show me a good tutorial for modeling. Most likely based on Hyrule Field, and a Dungeon. Sorta like the new Zelda zone DLC recently released for the wii u version of sonic lost world. But yeah, Zelda level. If you like the idea, please let me know, and if you know blender, a tutorial would be nice.

There are already hundreds of tutorials and resources for learning Blender, youtube for example has lots of videos on getting started with Blender.

I've looked on youtube before (obviously) and alot of the tutorials were rather low quality. So let me rephrase, if you know a really good tutorial for an absolute beginner to blender, please link me the video/webpage.

Quick update: In the process of learning blender so that my level doesn't look like the garbage beside the hobo in that one alley that seems very shady.

Progress Report: I figured out Blender and successfully imported a model, gonna start messing with the actual creation now, hopefully I can get some sort of demo ready, also i'm scraping the basic hub I had before in favor of a new one made in Blender. Will update the original post with the demo as soon as it is finished.
If you care at all, the demo will only have 1 or 2 stars, and most likely a 100 coin mission, so it will be 3 stars out of 8.

(BTW is it possible to change the title of a thread? Just wondering for later.)

So I decide to model my level in sketchup, since blender is too much of a headache. Skawo's Another Super Mario 3D showed the power of sketchup and inspired me to actually make my hack and to stop being lazy. So I model this castle, it looks really good, after several hours of positioning the texture's for the crenellations, I finish it. Then I try to import it into sm64dse, and there's nothing but white instead of my textures, confused I troubleshoot on google, only to find I put all the texture's on the back of the faces, and therefore i would have to re-texture everything (SEVERAL HOURS OF TEDIOUS CRENELLATION TEXTURING).
So the question stands, do I re-texture everything, and waste my life away, or make a fresh new model with 100% less crenellations? The latter. Just thought I would share my idiocy, and a warning to all, in sketchup, put your texture's on the WHITE FACE. That's all, I should have the level ready sometime soon.

You could import your model into Blender, select all faces, Mesh>Faces>Flip Normals. This'll put the textures on the other side of each face.

Tried that, I exported it obj, imported it into blender. It was broken into 4 grounds, so I went into edit mode with each. In each edit mode I pressed A to highlight all faces, then pressed ctrl+f, and then clicked flip normals. Yet when imported back to sketchup both sides of the faces are textureless, I'm not sure, maybe I did it wrong? It's fine, while it is a shame the castle made will never see the light of day, It only looked good, and was far to basic to really make a level. I'll start working on a much better level that will hopefully not suck.

How did you import it back in to SketchUp? If you used .dae you need to check Include Material Textures when exporting from blender

I looked at the object database and don't really understand what it's saying. If there's anybody with experience in blue coin switches, please inform me how they work. Also, HUBs done! :D

Look in existing levels with it.

When you think about it, if it's a 1 level hack, a demo is pointless. I will try to finish the hack soon though.

I might have not checked that. I used obj, but i'll try dae, no computer access atm, but when I have a chance i'll try that. I may be able to adapt the castle into a new level someday.

UPDATE: Tried the include material textures, figured out the issue. Sketchup only exports the textures on the front faces, aka flip normals in blender will not work. Upon further investigation, including ticking an option to export both sides of a face, the textures are impossible to salvage, at least with my current tools. Hopefully I can use the model for something in the future, but atm i'm not re-texturing it. Now I've learned from my mistakes, and can create something new and interesting (hopefully, at least).

UPDATE #2: Figured out that I can change the scale of texture. Since all the crenellations are essentially copies of each other with most of the faces being the same size, I can make several textures using the same image and retexture everything really quickly. I'll use the castle as a hub, with the main level being the interior. I'll hide 2 or 3 stars in the hub, and 7 in the main level (and a 100 coin mission on top of that). I'll release the hub just so that you can play my progress. While a demo is pointless (as stated before) It's less of a demo and more of a proof of concept. The hub will have no objects or stars. Should be uploaded later today or tommorow.

Alright, time for a huge update! After alot of work (and texturing the model twice) I finally have a working alpha. And by alpha I mean extremely early tech demo. Download link is in the first post, go check it out! Details on patching are in the first post as well.

Also I found the thread name editor and changed the name.

I really need opinions and help with making this, and I've put alot of time into it already. There is a video there so you can help without patching a rom, but I really want to get that fence fixed soon so I don't put too much more work into this only to discover the fence is hopelessly broken or some other crap like that. Even the model used is there. Just watch the video, download the model if you want, and post an opinion please.

It would help if the download links worked, I get a "403 Access Denied" error for both the patch and model download.

Hmm... Weird, I was using google drive, and they work for me. I get a different host, should be updated in a few min.

Edit: Link's updated.

Is the issue with the fence just the texture not being lined up?

Stomatol
Posted on 08-21-14 05:39 PM Link | #47030
The level itself is pretty good, but there's some wrongly mapped textures you should try fixing. Also I noticed that if you fall out of the level you keep spawning mid-air so it's kinda like an infinite loop, you should try fixing that too.
