Some of you may already have noticed the 'IRC notifications' link that popped up in the user menu.

I just finished coding the feature behind it, which is why I'm only announcing it now.

The principle is simple. IRC regulars already know that posts on the board are reported in #kuribo64. The idea is to extend IRC notifications, so when you get a notification on the board, you also receive it in IRC.

There are a few conditions for this to work, namely:

* You need to enter your most common nicks in that IRC notifications panel. As said there, you're limited to 5 nicks, and they must be registered. KuriBot won't send you notifications if you haven't registered and identified to NickServ. This is to prevent someone from getting your notifications if they steal your nick.

* Once this is done, the board gives you a command that you must enter in your IRC client. The command contains a secret random key, so don't give it out.

* If all goes right, KuriBot will tell you that your nick list was verified successfully.

* You then get to enjoy IRC notifications. Whenever someone sends you a PM, or posts on your profile, KuriBot tells you in private.

* KuriBot won't send you notifications if you aren't in #kuribo64. This is for efficiency reasons.

* When you join #kuribo64, if you have notifications on the board, KuriBot doesn't send them to you (yet?).

Have fun.

Note to OSX users: when you copy the command the board gives you, your IRC client will likely try to insert color codes in the command, breaking it. If KuriBot doesn't answer to the command, try typing the command manually.

Note that relatedly, the board now has a real notification system. Which means we could also implement, for example, notifications if someone posts in a thread you favorited (making that feature actually useful). Or email notifications.

I would like to have the feature where you are able to receive emails to know when someone posted on your profile/sent you a PM, or when someone posted in your thread.

PhPBoards, or whatever the name's software is, has that feature. Perhaps, we could investigate how it works, and implement it to Blargboard?

All the board softwares out there have that feature. Not like it's complicated to do, either.

I'll look into it when I'm not lazy. I also need to configure sendmail() on this server, so I can reenable password recovery.

By the way, my apologies for KuriBot's lack of stability. It had to do with not properly closing MySQL connections, it should work fine now.
