Hi :)

I just modelled my first SMG level ever (and mainly first 3D level which I am going to complete ever, too). :D

Yeah, it's called Woodlog Galaxy :D

So uh yeah, everything's made out of wood, there's a little town (suggestions please) and then uh yeah, there's a little 'log house' and yeah :)

Here's the model!

Share your opinion :)

(that log house is the entrance to the level, you go on a pathway thing and then you enter the ur, little town :))

It looks more like a SM64/SM64DS level than a Galaxy level.

And uh, perhaps a name change?

Okay, what about "Woodlog Town Galaxy" or simply "Woodlog Galaxy"?

And uh, it's my first level model. And I couldn't get that darn Follow Me to work, it glitches out >.<

It'll look good in Super Mario Galaxy once it is inserted ;)

Well, the first star is you climbing the tower to get the star on the top :)

The one with the spiral staircase.

I'm going to make this a bit harder with some jumps in mid air instead of on the tower.

So...it'll look good when your Wood Log is inserted? Riiiiight...

Ok but in all seriousness, while its not the best model I've seen, it's great to have yet another person getting into level creation!

What kind of puzzles, and what kind of enemies do you plan for this level to have?

I'd suggest the bee galaxy enemies, as they are the most "wood" feeling of the enemies.

Also, if you want it to feel more like the original galaxies, add more vibrant colors to the textures. Depending on the theme, light gold-brown is classic, but you could go for dark wood if you desire, in which case a dark red-brown would also look good.

EDIT: That color scheme was for the internal wood, as for the back, add more orange and red to the brown color, darken them, and remove some of the green. Greenish tinted logs (even to the minor extent that yours are) are more in keeping with a ghost galaxy.

Maybe those wood guys that appear in Galaxy 2 can talk to you?

Well, bee enemies, Mandibugs, maybe Goombas, and then by 'puzzles' I kinda mean "jumps" or "parkour".

Yes I am going to use acacia and dark acacia and green oak, too :) (acacia = orange, dark acacia = dark acacia [duh], green oak = green oak [duhhhh])

I'm just saying that realistic tree styles don't really have the "Mario" feel to them. Just like mario water is chlorine blue, mario logs are cartoon brown. And are almost always more saturated than realistic trees.

I think a honeyhive or reverse honeyhive galaxy theme (level theme, not music) would fit this best. and I do like KrazyGuy's suggestion above. I would try to use textures from the game, cause the type of textures you are looking for are a pain to find on the net.

Oh, yeah, and if you do find textures, remember that, just because something is scalable, doesn't mean that it scales well. Your textures have what I like to call "texture dots", where when you are a certain distance away, patterns start to form. To avoid this, try to reduce the contrast on the textures.

Another trick I use is to lay multiple textures with opacity to smooth them out, then add an overlay of whatever tint I want it to be.

Except the wii doesn't support opacity therefore rendering it useless :P but nonetheless, just make the textures smaller/loop more in general and you should be fine, that's what I do. Big enough to not look terrible repeating 50-100 times but small enough to not just be one giant texture mapped over the entire polygon, which makes that weird dot pattern that krazy mentions. It's a balance.

No, you don't understand, that is in the initial creation of textures in photoshop or wherever. Hence the use of "texture" rather than "material".

SnakeBlock

Okay, I'm gonna texture it from the ingame alreadyexisting textures, okay? ;)
