^ There is a setting. Right click on an empty place on the desktop, go to View, and choose Small Icons.

It's not due to Windows 8 it's the default size on Windows 7 as well.

Yeah its dumb. I have medium on my desktop icons and large icons for my taskbar. Mind you I got my taskbar on my right, not my bottom, gotta use up my screen at its max :D

Yes, I've had mine on the left for quite a while on my laptop. When I switched to my desktop I had so much things open at once I switched back to the bottom (I had many, many programs open).

I would have it on the bottom
but since i have a different 21:9 (2560x1080), its really wide, and i can use a bit of that width so i can still have a more than 1080p screen to use on my left with a small taskbar on my right.

This is a bump, but making a new thread would be horridly redundant. :P

Here's my latest desktop. Assuming people care, the theme was applied using an application called Flavours. The taskbar thing at the bottom is more aesthetic than anything else, but the 'X' button actually opens Launchpad when clicked. I drew the taskbar graphics with another app called GeekTool. The X Button functionality is just an invisible file alias for Launchpad, so it's less complex than it looks. So no, it isn't a third-party Taskbar app.
Status: It was really, really fun, guys - thanks for the ride!

They are not. My monitors on the side are the same and their height is pretty much the same as my main monitor.
