So I take it you've never implemented proxy protection before? 95% of reregs are made that way. But better late than never, I guess.

It wasn't a problem until megamoron717 appeared, because most people stop trying after they get an IP ban.

There's also the chance that the proxy protection causes false positives. But uh, who cares. There are a few more aggressive (read: autoban) protection methods in the board that have never caused false positives, so uh.

It's also worth noting that the 20-character limit to usernames wasn't enforced server-side (his last username is 33 characters). Now it is.

That's what proxies are for, hence why he set up a filter for them.

To 'change your IP', you need a proxy.

The protection in place blocks the majority of public proxies. In the case they manage to get past it, we can ban them manually, but it's a lot harder for them to start a rereg spree.

Finding a good public proxy already takes a while, most of them are slow as shit or don't work.

The registration check detects proxies based on an external database, so no.

However, it can influence IP bans. But generally, when I have a bandodger coming back with multiple IPs from the same block, I just ban the whole IP block.

Things get harder when the IPs vary too much, but those cases are rare.
