So, it's finally coming to a close. With one sentence the entirety of lies and promises of SMG2.5 crumbled.
hmm I think 2.5 should just...um...end

Everyone agreed but nobody did anything about it. It's just never going to go anywhere. So, I thought I'd make this thread as a goodbye to the project, because we're never going to try anything of this scale again for a long time, if ever. It was nice with all it's ups and downs, but our expectations were too high for what we were willing to accomplish. I've had my own share of ups and downs too. Even the occasional ban too xD but it was all a learning experience, and I have no regrets with what I did. I contibuted a lot of discoveries, and I learned a lot more about how the Wii and file formats and games in general work which will help me in the future if I ever decide to do this for a career, which is very likely.

The main thing I want everyone to take away from this is the ideas. We had a lot of good galaxies that hopefully some day can become actual galaxies. Of course, there's no guarentee of that, but if someone likes the ideas, they're free to use them however. We should free up all assets so we can use them as creatively as we can think of. There's no use confining them to a certain group or a certain design or level.

3002 posts on this board and 2487 on the archive. 3 years and 25 days altogether. 49 old galaxies, and many more original galaxies, both the 49 on this board and the countless ones on the archive from the old days. I remember back in the old days when we were just working on importing SMS levels, and then suddenly I figured out how to import models as brand new objects and from that point on, the project and SMG hacking in general would change forever. We could make whatever we wanted, with no hassle. Then a while later, we imported the first custom model, a box, of all things. Simple and easy. We decided to remake all levels in SMG2 with new models and level design, and we had an entire rehaul of the project. Then we decided to make entirely new galaxies, and a ton of ideas spawned from that one decision. Then comes my discovery of Whitehole, back in the old days when it could barely render anything. We decided to revive Kuribo64, with a brand new shiny look too. With brand new threads and designs and everything. 546 days later, TODAY, everything is coming to a close.

As my closing sentence, I'd like to say, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Add the sugar, spice, and everything nice to make the bad good. Create something others can enjoy, because giving back to the world is what it's all about.

It's sad to see the project go, despite the fact that I was never even a part of it. I still remember seeing that first trailer that you guys put out for this hack and thinking: "Wow, this is amazing! How is this even possible?" Something just seemed so magical about SMG2.5, but things got progressively worse once I joined the board. All of those hopes and dreams were continuously crushed, and now the project has come to an end. Well, that's all that I have to say. Goodbye, Super Mario Galaxy 2.5.

Well I guess we can all still make custom levels dispute the dead project ;~;

This board will be the new SMG hacking board.
I had gotten info that if 2.5 died SMG will no longer be part of Kuribo, so now it's here.

Also, I'm sad to see the project go. 3 years of memories will always stay with me.

Is it possible to move all of the SMG stuff over, or will we have to start again there?
(Also, I hope you move all of the themes there too)

Hopefully, Mega-Mario's not THAT much of a jerk, he'll give us the SQL for the posts and we can make it into an archive, so we can still view it, but it's best to start over fresh.

This is kinda sad. There was potential, and we can't say we haven't tried.

But as I said before, the entrance barrier to SMG hacking is just too high. Basically you can't make a good (as in, considered good) level without being a professional modeler.

I will archive the SMG section, either keeping it here or moving it to a separate, archive board.

SM64DS will stay. Kuribo64 will stay open and welcome you warmly as long as it'll stay alive.

If some people really feel like trying to continue SMG2.5, even though you damn well know my opinion about it, I'll provide them everything they need. The posts will stay in an archive. Whitehole's code is on Github. The last thing is the ObjectDB and I will gladly hand it over, both a SQL dump of the online version and the XML version provided with Whitehole.

Will you also give the themes that are unique to here? (PurpleNight, Nostalgia, BlargCity, GreenNight, GalaxyTheme. the NSMB themes, etc?)

Arisotura, I'll be glad to take the objectdb plugin and the SQL dumps for it to continue it. :)

Will you even be able to use the ObjectDB script? Last time it didn't work out too well.

Also, the themes specific to this site will stay here. Death of SMG2.5 doesn't mean death of Kuribo64.

I meant "copy them so the new board can have them too".

Nostalgia and Blarg City are staying here. The other ones can be copied at will. Most of them are ABXD themes anyway.

So the project finally died after being on the verge of death for a long time. I will miss these times, especially December 2010 to July 2011.

If I were a damn good hacker, I would have rebooted Super Mario Galaxy 2.5 as Super Mario Galaxy Ultimatum with End of The Galaxy, Lasso Desperado Galaxy, Beta Blast Galaxy, "The Works", etc.

Goodbye everyone. I will be leaving Kuribo64 in a few days.

Well, you could still work with others to help make those. I'd gladly help, and the more people who have ideas leave, the less chance we have. At the very least you should post your ideas for Lasso Desperado, so we could make a level out of them someday.
