Hello Kuribo64 Community!
I've been attempting to replace the models of playable character in gamecube games with another model from the same game. I've looked into Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, but I feel like I'm closest with Wind Waker. I've managed to decrypt the .arc files, and dump the contents, but simply replacing the .bdl model file with one of another character, archiving and encrypting back to .arc, causes the game to freeze. I feel like this probably due to the vertex and bone sections of the model being incompatible with the animation files assigned to the model included in the .arc. I'm wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to separate the visual element of the model from the bones and vertices, and replace the visual part of the model with a different model. And if not, if there's anyway other way to do model swap for animated models. Thanks! |

Uhh not really. This is why nobody's ever done this before, because it's so difficult. The way bones work is the vertexes for the polygons are given a weight for each bone they're assigned to, to make animating look more natural, and thus would be impossible to simply switch sets of bones to make it work.
You could always copy the animations from whatever you're trying to replace the model with and have it have the same names as the original animations so it still works in-game while still working with a new model, but that's about the only practical way to do it. That or make your own animations since IIRC Wind Waker uses BCK for those animations too, and MN1 made a text editor to edit/make your own animations if need be. ____________________ "I hate playing musical chats" ~ Quote of the month |

Ah alright, I had a feeling it is what much more difficult than I expected.
Do you know where I can download this text editor you talked about? |

Here. Most programs or anything of that sort can be found in the SMG Hacking Tools Development forum. ____________________ "I hate playing musical chats" ~ Quote of the month |
