The world map so far consists of at least seven islands, so it is like a hybrid of Super Mario Galaxy 2's map and New Super Mario Beos. U's map, but with the open-ended elements.

There are also said to be hidden secrets on the world map. Whether they are minor secrets like coins or major secrets like levels is unknown, as Nintendo is keeping it quiet at this point.

Whoa. Just look at all those cool features!

Those Sand Goombas that might just simply be statues look like something from Super Mario Sunshine. Biddybuds do resemble Strollin' Stus of course.

Mario can once again pick up Koopa Shells like in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. The Red Shell is back so it returns from SMG1 after being absent from SMG2.

The Bowser theme park is the level with the Para-Dry Bones and spikes. You can tell it is the Bowser amusement park since there is the ferris wheel and spires in the screenshot.

The only thing I hate is how lighting and materials work - with the rainy one he looks too plastic. I WANT LEGOS OUT OF MY MARIO

I think you meant Mario 3D Land. Not that I blame you, the titles are very similar.

Also yes, in the newest trailer there's an area shown that looks very open, and that beach level in the screenshots look open as well.

Also it's not like you have to use the Invincibility Leaf in the first place. Also think about the invincibility leaf like this:

If you lose so many times in a row on a level then Nintendo pretty much tells you "You're too noob for this. Here's some help for you noob" by giving you the leaf. When you think of it like that then it turns out that maybe the invincibility leaf was made to taunt you if you were bad enough to die so many times :P

Beating all the levels without the leaf appearing can actually be considered a bonus challenge, so I don't mind that it's in :P
