So, I have a problem. The process Scvhost.exe takes up almost all of my CPU. Every time I end the process, youtube won't work, or videos won't play. The process was also verified by microsoft as well. Could somebody please help me out? It is REALLY slowing down my computer and I need to get rid of it safely.

Everyone has that program, i think its part of windows. Takes up 142MB of my RAM and 0% of my CPU. Not a problem in my PC. On my laptop too. 142MB RAM, 0% CPU. No big deal.

Its taking up 96% of my CPU though, and it is really slowing my PC down. Could it be a Virus?

Svchost is the service host, its resource usage depends on which services are running. There are typically multiple instances of it running at the same time.

If you're running Windows 8, that may be Windows Update. Just turn that crap off until Microsoft comes up with a good solution.

I'm running Windows XP as a matter of fact. And yes, there are about 5 of the same processes running at the same time. But every time I disable it, youtube/flash doesn't work.

UPDATE: I'm going to be switching computers soon (like in a week) - so I most likely won't have the problem anymore.
