I cant believe nobody mentioned this sooner. I do not care that this is sad news. This is also very IMPORTANT news (we have to make sure that every Nintendo fan knows about it). Far more important than the trivial news stuff posted at Town Square and the news thread, so I just had to make a thread
Today, a gaming Legend died. His name was Hiroshi Yamauchi, the third president of Nintendo. He was the one who transformed Nintendo from a playing card company into the gaming company we know today. He was the one who gave us our Nintendo childhoods, and was the one who led Nintendo during all the way until the end of the GameCube era.... He was a true legend, and was the one who introduced Miyamoto's greatest works to people's homes as well as consoles. Every Nintendo gamer owes him (hell ALL gamers in the world owe him, since who knows how the gaming world would have been right now if there was no NES, SNES, Arcades, N64 and such). Y The following statements/comments describe him very nicely: “Hiroshi Yamauchi transformed a run-of the-mill trading card company into an entertainment empire in video games. He understood the social value of play, and economic potential of electronic gaming. Most importantly he steered Nintendo on its own course and was unconcerned by the actions of his competitors. He was a true visionary.” - Ian Livingstone, co-founder of Games Workshop and former chairman of publisher Eidos. "You cannot overestimate the influence the man had on the games industry." - Rob Crossley, associate editor of Computer and Video Games magazine RIP Hiroshi Yamauchi. You were always a legend, and you still are! ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy. Posted by gridatttack They did, but never mentioned anything about who he REALLY was or how great of a person he was. They just wrote the "facts" (like that he was the third president and all the stuff you could find on wikipedia). They never mentioned that he was special or what he actually did to the gaming industry (they just like wrote when he became president and how long he was president. Nothing about what he actually did WHILE he was president ). Honestly their article makes it sound like he was a completely normal guy who was randomly chosen as President of Nintendo and did nothing special. The only other detail they said is that he was one of Japan's richest and that he spent money on a crappy baseball team, just to make him seem even less important anyway BTT. RIP (Respawn if Possible) Hiroshi Yamauchi! (Yes I just had to say it again. It's just so sad...) ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy. Posted by GrapeEscape Nintendo put out a message on their facebook page saying: "In remembrance of Mr. Hiroshi Yamauchi, Nintendo will not be posting on our social media channels today." So it makes sense. I do understand their pain though. Miyamoto must be especially sad, since while it was Miyamoto who created the franchises, it was Yamauchi who introduced them to the audience and made everyone love Mario, Zelda and such. Gah the sadness! IT BURNS! ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy. It's sad that I don't know this guy at all.
Let's just say I hate reading the newspapers (so I suck at trivia/current events, don't know a lot) Well, RIP. ____________________ Burrow Base design- Text complete. Rest in peace, Hiroshi Yamauchi. He led Nintendo from a playing card company to a video game company. Even after he stepped down, he was the largest shareholder of the Nintendo stock.
During the 85 years of his lifetime, he saw a company sell playing cards to Donkey Kong to the Nintendo Entertainment System to the Wii U. He has witnessed the success of the DS and the Wii. All of that is an accomplishment for the long lifetime of 85 years. My sympathies go to the company of Nintendo, the Nintendo gaming community, and of course, the friends and family of Hiroshi Yamauchi. He will be remembered forever as a legend in the gaming industry. ____________________ Super Mario LOLand Thanks to kaj for helping to port my Acmlmboard 2.5 layout to Acmlmboard 2.064! |

Wow... I don't even know what to say. The life of videogames was from 1972-. But for most of those years, it was just Pong. Then, arcade games. If this guy never had the idea to make different kinds of games on home consoles, we might still have to go to an arcade to play games. All I hope from his last moments was that he had a smile; knowing he had transformed video games for the whole world. And I also hope that he had hope in Nintendo for the years of the company to come, without him. And that he trusted the company to keep us happy. And finally, that he had happiness for knowing he accomplished something great that affected the whole world. Rest in Peace, Hiroshi Yamauchi. Hopefully many years from now, in a history book, there will be a chapter about how videogames came to be. And Hiroshi Yamauchi will be a historical figure, and people will learn about what he had done in there. |
