Ok so I posted in this in the IRC and received no response so here it is:

I had this melody that I quickly wrote down and added chords to (so there are only strings so far) and just wanted to see if it might fit anywhere before continuing (last time, I wrote just an intro and it was bad, so...)

Thoughts?

In perfect honesty, this sounds like it fits more in the Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker more than anything else, it just doesn't sound too "Galaxy like". Will it see use? I don't know.

Oh. I was aiming for a Gusty Garden/Cloudy Court kind of feel.

Maybe I should add some brass/wood?

mariogalaxythree could probably give you some insight, I'm certainly no musician.

Ok, hopefully I can get some advice too because last time he said no I didn't get any so...

More brass. More percussion.
A piece like Gusty Garden or Fluffy Bluff needs to be grand and fills you with energy! It needs to move quite fast to give the feeling of an adventure! The brass will help with the grandiose feel of things while the percussion serves to move the piece on.

Try listening to some of the BIG pieces from Galaxy 1 and 2 and see if you can spot some major themes (e.g: big brass sound at the "main" section and a snare drum used to give the piece a sense of movement.)

Also, adding a few counter-melodies underneath the main one could help to give the piece a more full sound.

Of course I'd add more instruments (right now there are only violins and violacellos !) but I didn't want to get too far. I was just asking about the melody.

Oh yeah, teaches me to actually read the whole post :P
Yeah the melody'll be fine if it's sped up a bit, I think :)

Hmm, sounds like a sentimental piece, with tweaking it could work as some prologue music o,o Or I agree it could also fit a grand piece like season cycle in terms of like gusty garden, which is what I'd want to go for.
But it REALLY DOES have a lot of potential.
Also, those are some really nice samples o,o
i can imagine the big tree in season cycle being hollow and inside is a home and the music plays in there, or this could even be the hub music. SO MUCH POTENTIAL ;~;

I just listened to it. Its not bad. The tune is pretty cool and I agree with NWP, it does sound like the inside of a tree.

But the quality is meh and there are some tempo issues that really hold this piece back.

I really suggest getting a better soundfont.

Sadly, I don't have any money to spend online, so I have to resort to free ones. If you know of any good free ones, Id be glad to try them out!

And yes, I'll see what I can do with the tempo. That was the default tempo, and I just quickly made it so I didn't worry too much about tempo or dynamics.

I'll see if I can do something today or if I'll have to wait until the weekend. (T.T AP homework is killing me...)
