I dunno. How can you think that a pancake with syrup on top is better than a plain pancake.

I got to admit you do have a point there, but what would syrup be like, WITHOUT THE PANCAKE? >=3

Syrup without pancakes is delicious. I am alreasy nostalgic about SMG2 since June 8, 2009. That is when I first found out about SMG2. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is feels better than the first because of that experience I remember and because of its great addition ans innovation. I truly believe SMG2 actually did break the mold. NSMB2 is the first Mario game in a long time to not break the mold. SMG2 is what helped SMG1 hacking also become possible. If you hate SMG2 (which no one has said here) then it is impossible to like SMG1.

Sequels are never better than the original.

wtf? Paper Mario: TTYD and Pikmin 2 laugh at that comment.

Sorry, I actually liked the original paper mario more. Maybe it's just the graphic style, maybe it's just all the little things, but it just adds up to a better experience that TTYD does.

On-topic, I can't really decide which of the two is better, since they're both so good.

It comes close... but I'd say SMG2.

it's more like... SMG1 was a pancake with eggs and sausage, SMG2 was a pancake with eggs and bacon... or something

After seeing the disappointment known as 3D World, it made me go back and think about these 2 games. I used to think SMG2, but SMG2 was really the first 3D Mario game to be linear. Galaxy was a lot more open. After some thought, I change my vote to SMG1.

:c

SMG2 is still my favorite game and my vote still stands. Who knows, maybe the second 3D Mario will be open-ended like an SMS2 and it will top SMG2.

Sometimes, a game can be incredible. But then you can also see that it paves the way for the downhill spiral for a franchise. Take Pokemon RSE for example.

Actually, I think the tech demo and reference game that Nintendo used when making SMG1, SM128, paved the way for linearity in 3D Mario games. Don't blame Da Game (SMG2) for it! I love SMG2!

SM128? DOES NOT COMPUTE!!!

anyway, yeah. SMG2 did pave the way for the linearity of the newer 3D Mario games. It makes me doubtful that they will ever return to open world.

I did notice that. Smg1 was very open. But one felt that way because the main base (the observatory) and because of the comets, which were a lot.
Edit: i didnt notice this guy over me bumped a month old thread. But since its already bumped...

This thread went far enough. Like most of the silly postcount++ polls made in this forum.
