Gliding Inferno Galaxy Level Design

Star 1: Descent into Hell

Mario launches onto a large platform in the sky. The whole galaxy is one massive planet (like the size of our moon). Mario won't be able to see the whole planet, but will be able to go inside. This planet serves as a direct gateway to Bowser's Edge of the Universe (the final level). The whole planet is essentially a lava-warzone, with some industry. The Sky is dark red, and volcanos are constantly erupting in the background. It is essentially a living hell. But the real danger is yet to come.

So Mario is alone on the platform in the sky for 3 seconds. He is confused on what to do, as his platform is surrounded with lava below him, which would result in instant death. All of the sudden, a Jibberjay comes approaching Mario on the platform. He says "Mario, all of your allies, including me, the bee clan, and the toad brigade are here to help you! I have come to deliver you a message - we are fighting Bowser's forces in the heart of Mt. Helena - the largest volcano here. They are currently fighting over an important power star - one that will grant gateway to the Edge of the Universe! Since you got here late, it will be tough to get you to the power star, but an old friend here is certainly more than willing to help you get down there!"

Fluzzard arrives, and Mario boards him. The flight to get to the heart of the volcano commenced! Mario flies through the lava warzone, to reach the top of Mt. Helena. Enemies like Cindurrs and Magmaarghs constantly try to catch Fluzzard off of it's tracks. Soon, Mario reaches the top, and Mario must fly in a circular motion to go down without hitting the edge of the volcano. As Mario descends, he sees toads running from Goombas, Koopas, and Octoombas on wooden catwalks suspended over the lava below. Mario sees the power star in an alcove - and races to it. All of the sudden, there is rumbling, and the volcano starts to erupt. The toads rush to the alcove for safety. The trembling caused a large hole to collapse under Mario, taking him further down (parallel and under the lava, which is now a cavern made of rock and lava) Now, Mario has reached the second part of this star.

Now, Mario and Fluzzard go down the cavern in pursuit of the Star. Nobody knows what happened to it. The cavern starts to get more lava the deeper it gets. Bullet Bills, Magmaarghs, poodoboos, and many other enemies try to stop Mario while on his descent. Things are getting hectic. At the end of the cavern, there is a large room. There are more wooden catwalks here, and the star is at the middle. below the catwalks are nothing within site. This room is loaded with catwalks and is very, very large. Similar to the Mines of Moria from LOTR. Mario dismounts Fluzzard and fluzzard flies away. As Mario is about to collect the star, the catwalk breaks, and Mario free falls.

This free fall is around 2 minutes. Since there is no fall damage and this is Mario, he can easily survive the fall (assuming he hits a surface). The free fall section consists of more enemies trying to desperately hit Mario, Mario will have to constantly dodge enemy attacks. (this section may require some work, as a new pose for Mario and a new motion system must be developed). As Mario continues falling, the rock starts to get covered with bright orange lava. Eventually, Mario lands in a room completely surrounded in bright orange, yellow, and some light red/pink lava. This is the planet's core. There is one small platform in the center, and this is where Mario lands. The star also lands here. The room consists of beautiful lavafalls. It is essentially a fiery paradise, compared to the hell that happened for the majority of the mission. The star is now collected, and Mario can now move on to the final level, or do the second star mission.

I will design the second star (probably going to involve the red star), but I need time. I need to get this design approved first if you all like it.

umm what? Stop wasting your time. I'm designing this, and that design barely has any detail.

And...Mt. Helena? ._.

That background is probably the only thing that'll be agreed with. :P
Sorry...Polari's already got one, and yours is pretty much impossible/overly hard to make and rather weird.

There's always a light at the end of the tunnel. Of course, it's usually an oncoming express train.

Slow and steady gets you trampled by the other guys.

Well it was a first attempt/rough draft. I see now that some of the stuff may be impossible (free fall section), but it was more of a learning experience if anything.

Also, the word "hell" would not be used outside of Japan, so I do not see why we would have in other versions of Gliding Inferno, especially English.

The word hell was used in SMG2's code. It is not a swear word, so it should be fine.

In some contexts it is, and whether they should or not, many people are offended by it. It should be replaced with a different word.

I personally like "Fluzzard's Buring Battle Glide" better than "Descent into Hell", which also sounds... too wierd for a Mario game.

I now see that using Fiery Snakeblocks is a great idea. Possibly for Gliding Inferno, eh?

Except there's probably not going to be anything other than fluzzard as usual. But there's still whitehot

Are you sure? The Fiery Snakeblocks can be hazards that move next to you. Think of it as a Fire Snake.

Oh, well something like that could work, definitely.

Actually, that's a pretty good idea...I might use it.
