I just installed Ubuntu on my late 08 iMac, and my god is it FAST. Ubuntu is even faster than Windows that I had on the same machine.

I'm in the process of getting parts for my first custom PC, and that's what I'm going to install on it.

Well, i use ubuntu in my computer science class. Its fast, yeah, but i feel its kind of limited. If you arent into programming, you shouldnt be using the os.

About not installing windows... Well, i would install windows. Theres a lot of programs that need windows to work, so yeah. If you are a gamer, you'll need windows for sure. But more and more programs are linux compatible and thats great.

Anyway, if you need any help with which parts you need or anything, just ask me. I finished building my gaming pc for a pretty low cost (less than $1000)

I use (Arch) Linux, but not Ubuntu.

Umm... Huh? What kind of programming and where do you need it? I haven't programemd anything essential to keep this system running.
If you are referring to using the terminal as 'programming', this isn't true either. You can get around most anything in Ubuntu without using the terminal.

I'd recommend either using NVIDIA or Intel graphics if you are gonna run Linux, AMD's drivers are pretty crappy.

In music class we have this Ubuntu computer no one is able to use except for me. I think the computer is so slow it can't even run windows.

I have Ubuntu as my third OS next to Windows 7 and 8 on my laptop.

I dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10 on my Dell. I know that that's a really old version, but I don't even use that computer anymore. I also run 10.04 in VirtualBox on my Windows 7 Bootcamp.

I doubt it. That's the first version of Ubuntu that was released.

I downloaded Ubuntu as a Parallels VM but deleted it after how slow my computer ran. My laptop couldn't handle OS X, Windows 8, and Ubuntu at the same time. :P

Why were you running them at the same time?

Macs allow you use different OSes (Windows on Mac).

Many airplane gaming screens feature linux. And when they crash, the Club Penguin-esque/Wheezy-esque Linux Penguin appears in the boot screen. XD

Should have worded that differently, I wasn't running them at the same time. It was simply them both existing on my computer at the same time. I deleted Ubuntu because it was slowing mah comp down and I didn't really need it anyway. I already had a Unix-based OS. (OS X 10.8)

I haven't really seen anyone in real life using a linux OS besides the seat screens on airplanes. Also, I haven't exactly experienced the OS on a PC before.
