...Nobody said anything about Spring Mario in here. I thought they were just comparing the Spring powerup to "escort" missions.
Anyway, does anyone like my plan?

That seems rather weird (roof-->walkway-->underwater-->flat area-->tower).
It could be all based on the fortress (it should be a rather simple one, possibly a munitions factory?)
Possibly something like this:
(Taking from HRE's design)

Starting from the roof, where there are a bunch of HUGE Banzai Bill cannons firing 4 Banzai Bills and 4-6 Homing Bullet Bills per shot, plus Sentry Beams (the fortress defense?).

Then a Launch Star to a walkway (just outside a wall), with holes in the floor and sides, with Banzai and Bullet Bill Blasters covering the wall, so that Mario has to duck or jump at regular intervals.

Then the walkway stops, and is replaced with the flipping Thwomp face platforms. It gets harder, as there is now no solid floor. Homing Bullet Bills start to mix in at regular intervals, nearly always exploding before reaching Mario, but causing many explosions to be careful of.

At the end of the section, there is a long drop like that passage in Throwback leading to the Thwomp King. Mario emerges in the back of a smallish warehouse. However, the warehouse is filled with every kind of launcher, so Mario has to keep running, avoiding boxes.

Then emerging into an open area with mines, Sentry Beams and a few Hammer Bros. The open space has many launchers set up near the Hammer Bros., all pointing in the same direction.

Then the Bullet Bill Tower. I'm thinking just a smallish tower with tough platforming, with a large open space at the top to fit Bowser
(his personal viewing platform to oversee the firing range? :P) Then the boss fight.


If nobody is planning to design this, I might make one.

Is it possible to place Banzai Bills and non-Missile Bill-like Bullet Bills on paths. Also, can the homing behavior be taken away from Torpedo Teds so that they are not like Targeting Teds? Imagine an abandoned wind tunnel that has path-set Bullet Bils and Banzai Bills in the dry part, and path-set Torpedo Teds in the flooded areas of the tunnel. Banzai Bills in an abandoned wind tunnel would be reminiscent of Subway trains.

Try replacing wind tunnel with a torpedo tube (like in submarines, except a lot larger and longer).
Great idea, to repeatedly have to duck or jump when a upsized Banzai Bill passes by...

Maybe we can have KING BILLS in this level? I know that they would be overly big (that's the point), but imagine a scene where Mario has to run for his life along a narrow path while the King Bill chases him :3

I like that idea. It would just require some texture hacking and some geometry reworking (to make them look obese). It would be a good reference to the NSMB series.

I'm 99.99% sure we can import the King Bill model from NSMBW. Problem is, we would have to duplicate Banzai Bill.

EDIT: GC, a torpedo barrel would definitely be better.

We need to make the SMG2 feel VERY different, though. One of my biggest concerns with both games is that the Bowser fights all felt a bit rehashed. If we are able to make Bowser's punch spawn Banzai Bills, that would be great.

We can spice up the fight by adding Lava, maybe spikes, or even enemies. for this galaxy, bullet bills attacking you is the *cosmo*LOGICAL option.

How should the boss fight planet be shaped? Should it be a sphere or ovalar? Wait, maybe it could take place on a fast moving King Bill and the King Bill's "rocket booster" contains lava (Bullet Bills' boosters glow red-hot).
