My desktop: Core i7 K785 @ 2.93Ghz, Radeon video card (don't remember the model), and well, not much else to say. Backlit keyboard which is awesome in the dark. Portable mouse which I also use with my laptop because no other usable mouse. And 1920x1080 monitor.

My laptop: Asus EeePC, Atom CPU, don't remember the model. Shitty specs but I don't care, I don't use it for gaming. It's also the right size to fit in my backpack.

My 'desktop': iMac late 2008 model.

RAM: A pathetic 2GB.
CPU: A slow-a$$ 2.66 Intel Core 2 Duo (Dual Core).
GPU: A really sad ATI Readeon 2600 HD Pro (name not exact) with only 256MB.

Hoping to upgrade to the new iMac model. (Technically Haven't used the disc drive; I used it to install software that's available on the Mac App Store. (iWork, iLife))

Well, i think your PC is bottlenecking (which means one of the parts it not being used at its maximum since all the others are not strong enough). Your CPU is too powerful for the other parts. Thats why its slow, the processor is pretty good, but the other parts are bad.

I don't even know how to check my PC specs.

All I know is it's a Dell Inspiron with Intel Core i3 Processor

Your computer bottlenecks. Your cpu is powerful, but your gpu is somewhat weak. You could use an upgrade to not waste cpu power.

Or perhaps he doesn't need lots of GPU power. :P

I should have mentioned that it's a laptop, and upgrading to a better GPU is not possible.

Degolegodyl
Posted on 12-19-12 01:36 AM Link | #1926
Well, it actually depends. Many laptops have integrated gpus, which means that the gpu is part of the motherboard. You cannot change this. But if the gpu is not integrated, then you can change it. Many laptops are bringing non integrated gpus so people can upgrade them.

I'm sure that the Intel HD Graphics 3000 is an integrated GPU.

Yes it is lol!

Intel GPUs are always integrated. And really underpowered for stuff like videogames. Perhaps the most recent ones can run Whitehole smoothly, though. That'd have to be checked. I remember reading that they're getting better...

The Intel HD Graphics 3000 can run Whitehole just fine. It can also run games in Dolphin at surprisingly decent speeds. NSMBW, Brawl, MKW, Melee, and Sunshine run very close to full speed, while even SMG1 and SMG2 reach speeds of 50-60%, occasionally as good as 70-80%.
