I have an idea.

What if, there was a really rare chance of the game spawning a yoshi that looked like a different person?
Like a yoshi that looked like Gordon Freeman for example.

Is just making a color randomizer for Yoshi on set levels actually possible and/or practical and/or pretty easy?

It would be cool if there were only 3 'main' Yoshis that played an important job in the storyline.

What if there was a rare chance of getting a Dry Yoshi?

only cosmetic, of course.

Possibly, I doubt it though. It would complicate things even more, even if it was just a texture swap

Dry Yoshi could be possible, but would only be used for Dry Boneyard.

What about speciality yoshis?

We shouldn't try to overcomplicate things, making yoshi colors randomized is hard enough as it is.

Wouldn't that take a ton of ASM hacking? >_<

Kind of. Like I said, it's more so research then actual hacking of code.

maybe after the first yoshi is found, all yoshis are of that color. simpler of harder?

That would be harder, and also be boring. There's no point to randomize colors if the game keeps the same color throughout anyway :P

It would be boring, and it would add lack of variety in the Yoshi's. I say no.

Ok, so, let me explain fully this concept.
This is Koura.arc, or the JetTurtle, or in layman's terms, the shells that you can pick up and throw that has an unused red and blue attribute. It is grey because the programming in the game changes the hue and such to red, blue, or the normal green, and this is all hooked up to an obj_arg.
This is how they do it.
We can do the same thing if we understand the code enough. We would create a grey Yoshi, and then we would make the game change it to whatever the hell you want. to start off with, we would simply reuse the code from this and have green red and blue. Once we know enough, we MAY be able to add more, but for now, this is all a concept that will take a while to be able to pull off.

If I remember correctly, many objects that can be multiple colors (for example, Lumas) have a generic model and a file called ColorChange.brk that specifies its colors. Unfortunately, the format of BRK files is unknown.

Oh hey this is interesting. Up to this point, color changing for Toads/etc was hardcoded.

Also I'm not really for Dry Yoshi. 'Dry' characters are usually enemies, and they kinda represent death, while Yoshi is supposed to be a friendly character.
