Could we at least use the concept of using Fire Mario to light up dark paths and activate switches to open doors to the next room?

I don't think you get it. There may not even be rooms for you to explore, unless it's inside the Yoshi Sphinx. However, I would like to explore the Yoshi Sphinx, so that would be a yes. However, ruins does not need to be rooms.

NWP tbh I don't like the idea of the yoshi sphinx, especially because it was in PM:SS

I think a pyramid would fit here, but only as a portion of the level (The end actually, so it's like the power star is the treasure)

Yes, that was my main point. Sand, not ruins. Like you said, I would put whatever near the end.

Maybe the level could be all on the ground, starting with a linear portion surrounded by quicksand, that leads to the giant pyramid. And to give the galaxy more a definite feel, decorative pyramids could be on both sides of the linear section. This would be similar to that section in Fluffy Bluff where those round pillars are on both sides

IDK why we are thinking like Egypt with pyramids and sphinxes. Ruins =/= Egypt. It may fit the sand theme but it's not really what I'm imagining.

Okay, we could replace the pyramids on the sides, and then also replace the one at the end with something other than a pyramid. However, I really want some sort of section at the end with booby traps that protect the star

I thought that this was going to take place inside a Yoshi Sphinx?

Wait, so we can have paper mario references in galaxies that aren't Paper Caper, but in Paper Caper it's a huge no?

Yoshi Sphinx is level 2-2 of Sticker Star.

Edit: koopa get

I thought that we would use the Yoshi Sphinx from the first page...

And the only person that said that Paper Caper shouldn't have a PM reference is SSL.

I thought the focus was more on puzzles than ruins. I know, you can add in secondary themes, but...a bunch of aboveground ruins doesn't really lend itself to puzzles.
Well, the level could start off with a short puzzle aboveground in an old ruin, but with the pipe dumping Mario down a long shaft, into a large underground maze:

It would be great to have one half of the level be completely underground in a temple, exactly like NSK's pics of Arbiter's Grounds, except with many traps, like a retextured Ledge Hammer, a hidden Thwomp with only a dip in the ground hinting at its prescence, one of those Clockwork Ruins giant rolling stone-platforms coming down a narrow hallway...
Dead ends that don't look like a dead end, and correct paths that look like a dead end. It should be unnervingly monotonous, but with hidden dangers emerging everywhere.
It should be a labyrinth, designed to lead Mario past all the traps, with many dead ends but only ever one correct path.
The "trickster" Hungry Lumas could be found here, in the maze. The real one could launch him back to the surface, for the second part.

You know, it's slightly annoying when you keep saying "it's not what I'm imagining" or something along those lines, without giving any ideas of your own. I have no idea what your idea would be...(NWP)

We said something about aboveground ruins? I thought this was all underground, except for the little intro section.

I don't really know at this point, it's kinda what you guys want. I'm simply telling what I think it should be like

Oh, so it's not confirmed? Ok. What does everybody else think of the Yoshi Sphinx idea? :D

Say, a Ledge Hammer trap could work in here.

So, hiya, late to the party again: We should stray from anything "fake". I don't know what I originally said about this galaxy, but I'd much rather have it be out there and crazy than "fake". Faking the player out is fun for maybe one or two moments in the level, but I'd rather it be more illusion and puzzle based. Also just weird stuff happens. Like this:

(Yes I know that's more like concept art). Anyway, the idea is more that the galaxy should be strange and bizarre, but no fakeouts like fake stars or collisionless platforms.

O.o that is so confusing. I can't tell what is what xD
I do agree that it should be weird.

Weird, but not TOO weird. It has to have some sort of idea behind it.
