This 3D Mario for Wii U could be "Super Mario Gateway", a Super Mario 64-like game. The second 3D Mario for Wii U could be "Super Mario Universe", another Super Mario 64-like game, but it is not a sequel to "Super Mario Gateway", but rather a completely original game. I am exited for Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (Luigi's Mansion 2) and the local, online, and Download Play multiplayer. About Super Mario Sunshine 2: It is a possibility, but you never know.

Hmmm...
So, Nintendo's now set a standard by releasing two 3d marios on one console. That's actually why I hate SMG2 haters: It may have been a sequel, but it's not like we were expecting it to exist at all! So hmmm... Idk what theme they have for 3d mario now. IT BETTER HAVE A THEME AND NOT BE THEMELESS LIKE 3D LAND And for you Sunshine/64 lovers, I've gotta say that those games bore me. I think SMG1 was perfect in the way that it have lots of stars for each galaxy (Resembling 64/SMS) while also making it interesting by adding new power ups and having the levels be quite linear. I think the concept itself set up the game for success too. -Each section is connected by launch stars. This means the planets don't have to fit together at all. This is what makes 64/Sunshine boring, there are no surprises around each corner -Each level is a galaxy, thus there is not one specific theme for each one. (You could make this argument for 64, but in SMS all the levels had to be beach themed one way or the other) So the question is, what theme could live up to that bar that was set so high by the galaxies? Who knows? Maybe it won't reach that bar? Either, way IT BETTER HAVE A FREAKIN THEME And yes SSL, of course Universe would be like galaxy. What I'm saying is what if Nintendo actually branches off galaxy into its own series? Each console would have a new 3D mario, and then a galaxy sequel. Thus, Universe would be SMG3, just with a cute name for the console. |

If Super Mario Sunshine was truly open-world, you would not need rainbow M portals, cannons, pipes, aurora-like beam that makes a wierd noise, or even a train system.
Universe does not have to be Galaxy 3. Someone on Youtube, IGN, or something once said, "Not universe as in Galaxy but as in Mario's universe". I can see why people think Sunshine us boring. Not everyone wants an overall tropical theme. Of course. It lacked originality. If you play NSMB2 expecting originality, you will not have fun. The reason why I like it is because I just wanted to play it for the gameplay, not originality.
3D Super Mario Wii U HAS to surpass the Super Mario Galaxy series it is the first 3D Mario game for a new home console since 2007 when SMG came out. Nintendo has been secretive about this game, suggesting it us completely new. Also, I doubt this game will be like SM3DL because this a home console game and there is secrecy surrounding the game. An SM3DL-like game may appear in the successor to the 3DS while a big 3D Mario will appear on the Wii U and the Wii U's successor. (too early for talk of successors, right?) I remember the day when 3D Super Mario Wii U was announced, people in the GameSpot article's comments were giving the annoucement hatred until a guy chastized them for hating the unseen game but ironically loving the GTAV trailer. I agree with him. We have seen no screenshots or footage of this game. All we know is that it is a 3D Mario game for the Wii U. Hatred toward this game is completely illogical. Wait for Nintendo to visually reveal the game. Then you have my permission to hate. Something that was brought up by, I think, joshjepson and attackingtucan's newest versus, was the fact that recently, nintendo has been getting rid of a proper hub like delfino plaza. Since this year is Luigi's year, then 3D Super Mario Wii U may come out next year unless it has am equal focus on Luigi alongside Mario.
