So I will post my level design for Solar Coaster HERE.
This galaxy will have an upbeat feel to it. This Galaxy should be one of the few that only has 1 main mission star. Planets: There would only be two: Coaster Planet (which mostly has Yoshi Dashing upwards on a beanstalk-like roller coaster) And the Sun (You don't touch it, but the star is right on the surface, meaning you have to fall to reach the star. Touching the sun will result in instant death.) Mission 1: Dashing to the Sun You would start at the base of the Coaster Planet. The coaster is mostly vertical. At first, it is a simple, easy dash up. But 1/4 of the way in, things get tougher as some of the beanstalk begins to rot away. Then there is a checkpoint resting spot. The 3rd quarter of the beanstalk-coaster has flames starting to appear (due to being near the sun.) The final part is right near the sun, and you must actually land on the sun to get the star (almost land however.) If possible, other amusement park rides can be incorporated into the level, like having a ferris wheel, merry-go-round, and other rides on the base of the coaster to the sun. The background should be daytime. No doubt about it. There should also be plenty of upbeat touches to represent the amusment park feel. ____________________

Okay so, time for some of my ideas. Firstly, I like the idea of a big main planet, but I don't think that's where most of the action should take place. The main planet should be little more than the entrance gate, and each star has you going through a different gate. It's basically like a little hub. One star should be linear, you go through the middle main gate and go through a bunch of fun theme park inspired planets, such as:
- Fun slide - Balloon planets? Bouncing between balloons with gravitational pulls could be pretty fun! - A platforming carousel, you start on the left and have to platform around it, in 2D, to the right. The motif of the carousel is 8 bit mario stuff, the design on the actual background of the carousel resembles 1-1. - Cannon launching between multiple targets, shooting every which way with different gravity zones. We could have rings of fire using torches and stuff like that to make things even more interesting, as well as some alternate routes. - Swinging ship? It could be done with paths on one of the mobile airships! That said, it wouldn't really have a visible pole swinging it... still, it could be done! - A spinning room. There are plenty of spinning objects in SMG2, it would be really cool if we could take one of them, make them spin at a pretty fast speed, and have mario platform inside of it! Like one of those spinning rides that have you stick to the sides of the ride. However this would be inside and probably 2D. Although if getting the camera to work for that would be too difficult, we could make it 3D. - Silver Star Bounce House. Star 1 could end here. You land in a bounce house, and you have to bounce to get the 5 silver stars to form a star in the center. Now for star 2. I like what people have been saying, and I like "Shooting Star" as the name of the coaster. There are still a few things I'd like to tweak. NO 100 coin collection. It's not fun, especially not in a main mission. Perhaps some blue star chips (do they appear in SMG2?) or regular star chips, but no 100 coin mission. Collecting starbits in SMG1 was pretty much universally disliked (no pun intended bleh). As for the actual coaster, I think it might be good for it to start out in 2D. Or at least, have a 2D section. This should be a GALAXY coaster, it should be as crazy as possible. Giant drops and giant slopes, but more than that, running straight up for a while, maybe even while jumping between gravity zones (I don't know if that would work for dash yoshi but I'd like to try), 3D sections with corkscrews, splitting paths, (we could use construction caution fences in certain areas to make sure you can't fall off too easily). Or... what if the roller coaster is still under construction? So basically, I think the coaster could start out in 3D for you to slide down (with caution fences on both sides) and then after you use a dash pepper to get up the first slope, the camera switches to 2D and you go through some fun vertical running sections, sections where you the coaster even slopes so far upward that you start running upside down and then back around again. Something like a somewhat simplified Sonic game, perhaps: ![]() |

My idea exactly. There would be a large, white sun built for the galaxy, and flames would start to come near you as you approach it - while dashing on the beanstalk. PS im trying to ask you a question on formspring but my 3ds isnt letting me:P ____________________

It was something like, collect 100 (make it 50?) coins via "minigames" (i.e. a fenced off area with coins to collect, and a ranged text box NPC standing at the entrance explaining how to grab them. (e.g. an area with cannons, drums and coins, so Mario can shoot himself up there to grab them.
It could have all of Glem3's suggestions for the minigames, with more than enough coins and enough variety to make it interesting. To make it less annoying, it should be near-impossible to die in the first half. Plus, it would only be the first half of the level, with the underconstruction roller coaster being the main attraction. Just because, you know, just a rollar coaster would be extremely uncreative. ____________________ Burrow Base design- Text complete. I might try my hand at some art...maybe...eventually...? Bullet Base design- Final Frontier- (collab) There's always a light at the end of the tunnel. Of course, it's usually an oncoming express train. Slow and steady gets you trampled by the other guys. |

While I liked my idea of 100 coins, I guess we could drop it in place of something more linear. I just don't see how we could make a linear level out of an amusement park without it looking unprofessional (In other words like the levels we've made in whitehole recently)
Also, MG3 what are you talking about with a beanstalk??? Why would we even.... So anyway, I really want to keep the Shooting Star idea, but make it resemble something like an actual coaster. While it would be unusual and impossible in real life, it shouldn't look like a linear mess if you know what I'm saying. It should cover only a small area (In terms of size, not length) like a real coaster, with many twists and turns. Btw glem, I'm glad to see you posting again ![]() |
