So, we didn't have a thread for the introduction to the game, but seeing as we are now working on it for the trailer, I think it deserves one. Here's our basic premise for the intro:

- Peach sends you a letter asking you to come to the castle for whatever reason (probably to help out with setting up the star festival, as this intro takes place at dawn).

- You start outside Mario and Luigi's house in a heavily wooded area, Luigi is there telling you he'll catch up with you at the castle later (he also informs the player on how to jump).

- You jump to enter a pipe near Mario's house, which brings you to some fields -- these fields help the player get used to 3D movement, and lead to Toad Town. After passing through toad town, you get to Peach's Castle. A toad informs you that she is upstairs.

- You enter Peach's castle and head to the top, only to find the princess missing and a small luma on the ground. After the cutscene with the luma, the camera pans to show that airships (out the window) have taken off with Peach.

- You head back down, and the toads (who are now panicking) open up a gate and tell you to head to the mushroom kingdom observatory through a nearby pipe.

- You scale the observatory, and at the top there is a cannon. To make sure there's not too much room for player error, there is a hole to fire the cannon through (you can't miss and screw up). After using the cannon, you launch into the first galaxy. We know this is possibly because you actually reach sky station by touching a certain area in 3D space, the launch star is not required.

SO, time to post some progress pictures. I've only been able to work on Mario's house so far:

Outside the windows is only there for mockup purposes, but everything else is how it should appear in-game.

Holy shit glem, nice work with the house interior. Although mayber you could change those pics a bit? Like the SMS one, and the SMG one. Maybe it could have Rosalina instead of Peach?

Why would Mario have a picture of Rosalina? O.o

Edit: There is a picture of Luigi with Rosalina on the other wall (the other wall has weegee pics instead of Mario)

Wow, nice work with the house!
I love how the interior is so detailed.
(also like the clothesline)

Story seems fine. Only problem I can see is boundary limits. (i.e. what's stopping the player from going off in the wrong direction)

Edit: Dense trees and overgrowth as the boundaries. I see. ^

I do like this! A lot! to fix boundary limits, we can just add a fence, as it would stop Mario from going in the wrong direction. And I would like to see Mario's Fire Outfit on the clothesline too - more variety! And I also would like to see Mario and Rosalina... (as I secretly think she is loads better than peach).

But this is quite nice, and I'm lovin' it!

Or we can make collision for an invisible wall. (Or use the object. Either one works)

It would look kinda meh if we used invisible walls, I would rather just use normal fences even if they looked like they restricted the player.

The original games did it .-.

Anyways, well Glem3 once this is imported, I'm going to do the camera, since it's already 2D in the first place, so I have to do some tweaking to it, and various things. (Unless you want to do it, of course.)

The reason I want actual fences is because then it would look more realistic in a sense. Or we could expand the area and let Mario have a little more open space surrounding his house, then do the fences.

I was kind of thinking that before you begin Astral Stronghold, there's a cut scene that shows Mario landing on the first planet of AS and seeing Bowser break in and scattering the power stars. Then you see one float down on the other side on the galaxy. This would give Mario a reason to be at the Stronghold (following Bowser) and a reason to actually go through the level. Then after the level you'd finally get to the hub. (We still need to figure that out)

Cutscenes = Animations.

So, no. We can't do this at the moment. (Unless somebody orders us to do it. :P)

Treeki made a good point last night on the irc that we can have animations, but just save actually save making them for later.

Anyway, to be on topic, I do like how this is coming out. The story seems basic, but is easy and different from Galaxy 1 and 2.

I'm looking forward to it :)

When we get to Peach's Castle, I think we should revamp the entire first floor into a dance floor. It would be elegant, and we could show Mario dancing with Peach/Rosalina at the end. (Once we figure out animations).

There are trees in the area stopping Mario from just going anywhere. This first part is mainly just a straight line to a warp pipe.
