Hi people of Kuribo64, I'm PatriotTP!

I've discovered this project recently from watching a Let's Play! of your Demo for Super Mario Galaxy 2.5! I was very impressed that anybody can just take the codes from the game and do whatever they want with it. I was impressed with the outcome and then made my way to your old site, and then made my way here to this site! I love what you are doing for the fans of the SMG1 & SMG2 games, to give them something extra and make it out of nothing.

I don't know, I just think it's really cool and interesting. And I want to help, but I'm not sure exactly how I can. So if somebody can respond and give me some choices on how to help this on-going project, please do so.

I'll be waiting patiently!

- PatriotTP

Well there's actually quite a bit to do, if you're willing to learn. As it is, we're still making designs, but most have something already made, and I think we have enough. You could try to become a composer, which is somewhat helpful, or you could learn Autodesk Maya and model/program which would be the most helpful.

We have a bunch of models and model concepts sitting around but they have yet to be modeled and textured, so once that is done, we can finally import it into teh game and start creating.

If you wanna learn modeling, I would either PM one of us modelers here, namely myself, cosmological who is somewhat here, Agent000 who gets on everyday if possible but isn't 24/7, or FnarGod who seems to have disappeared. I could probably help you the most.

I'd get started by going to Autodesk's website and signing up for their student program and downloading Maya.
Once you actually have Maya, there's TONS of youtube tutorials that you can watch, and it would help learn it in a short amount of time.

Also welcome, I remember when I was in your position, I didn't really know anything and yet I still managed to fit in and find something to do. Good times :D

Learn how to texture models. That's what we need most atm.

Well we also need concept art as well, so the modelers and texturers have something to go off of. It all depends on if you're better with computers or art stuff

What you have posted sounds very complicated. XD

But I'm willing to learn tho, Summer is coming soon and that's when I can help the most. Unfortunately school is a major piece of my time but I can make time for something kool like this.

And the other problem I see myself coming across is that I have a really old/slow laptop. And my PC is alot worse. So idk how much this will effect my computer but I'm willing to give anything a shot.

Now I have alot to learn but "Composer" sounds like the easier thing. I am experienced with hacking but I have never created codes or anything like that. I could learn tho. So, the best place to start?

Yeah, modeling is just basic math, mostly geometry, since IIRC Maya uses shapes and you bend it and shape it as needed. Composing does take a lot of skill IMO, you have to not only fit the mood of the galaxy, but it has to all be layered and sound good.

I get where you're coming from, we're all really busy with school, almost all of us are in high school believe it or not.

There isn't really any coding that you'd need to do since we'd got that covered for now. I also have a like 5 year old laptop and it isn't all that great, but I still manage.

Learning to texture models :3

Well even that is complicated, there are many ways to get it done, you'd still need to learn basic modeling, and then be able to UV map, bake on shading, or whatever to make it work. It's still an art to make a decent looking model in terms of textures. But like I said, there's still tons of tutorials on youtube to teach you that

Then yeah, I'd go get Maya from here
Be warned, the download size is enormous.
You'll need to register an account tho IIRC
Once it's downloaded it'll have this registration code you need to enter that's on the webpage, and you enter it in the program as you install it. Should be pretty straightforward.
https://kuribo64.net/?page=thread&id=7&from=140 < I would also introduce yourself properly on that thread

I got a 83 in geometry last semester so that's good...right? XD

Yeah, I'm almost positive I could learn, I just don't want to kill my laptop, my bro would get angry. :P

With hacking...it makes me the noob and I want to conquer it and become a great haxor, for the better obviously!

Yeah, it wouldn't break it persay, but my laptop lags like shit when I have to model, so it's moreso a hinderance than anything else. You have to wait longer for it to process the polygons and such.

Not sure if I should try it, how slow are we talkin here? I don't want to effect my laptop to where it's going to run inefficiently and can't be used at all. Y'know, I just want to be 100% sure as to what I'm doing here. Playing it safe. :P

NWPlayer123
Posted on 04-21-13 04:24 AM Link | #21048
No, it doesn't lag all the time, just when you're using the program. It's totally fine xD

Ok, I'll do a look over on all the programs on my laptop I do not need and clean stuff up, then I'll make sure it's ok with my bro. If so, I'll do it! :)

But let me give you a thought about how my laptop runs:

- Can open about 1-3 tabs on Firefox without major lag, unless I'm playing videos on YT, then it could get bad.
- Everytime I open Skype, my laptop acts like a 100 year old man.
- I have Windows XP, if that matters for anything :P
- Laptop has overheating issue that causes it to shut down if it does overheat. :/
- Weak battery

Hmmm actually that sounds like it could be a problem, especially the overheating issue...

NWP how are you gonna help him with maya if you don't know maya yourself? :P

Another Program that most modelers use here is blender

I don't need to ._.
Read the actual thread xD
And we're not having another person use blender, we have enough problems as it is.
Just because people use Blender doesn't mean it's good. cosmological is using it because that's what he happened to learn in school for a class.

Hi there PatriotTP! :D

Also just though I'd mention that even though like NWP said that we need modelers and texturers the most, you can still try and design a galaxy as long as nobody else has any plans of designing it (I think MC had a list which galaxies were designed and by whom) :)

The designing process can be pretty competitive :P

And fine, I guess maya is better, so learn that. Maybe we can encourage other modelers to learn maya as well
