Well I've been gone for a while so might as well come back with something crazy, and this is part 1 of 8 of my crazy design frenzy (where I hopefully make 8 designs in a period of 7 days, and hopefully not die). Well because my original model got rejected here is an picture I drew of the new star.

sorry for the image being cut off, my scanner is being weird but it should suffice

Well the large island on the right is the main part of the island, Mario finds himself on a grassy area of the galaxy with a beach in front of him and a cave next to him. Mario notices that the cave is blocked by some rocks so he must find a way to get rid of the rocks and proceed in the level. After exploring the top of the surface, Mario decides to go on a diving adventure.

Cue the bottom left image. Mario dives beneath the surface of the water to find some way to get rid of the rocks. (the lightly shaded in parts of the drawing signalize shallow water while the deeper shades refer to more shallow water) After swimming around in the gorgeous water Mario finds a cave with a Koopa shell, Mario must then find something to do with the shell. Similar to Beach Bowl Galaxy there are some cracks in the sides of the wall, so Mario decides to throw the shell at them and hope for the best. One of the cracks leads to a large cave with a ground pound switch, so Mario decides to hit it. Hitting the switch allows Mario destroys the rocks and lets Mario proceed in the level. The other crack leads to a long cave passage with a chest at the end of it. If Mario decides to go back and get another shell he will be rewarded with a comet medal.

Return to main image. After hitting the switch to destroy the rocks Mario can proceed to the major cave. the cave has the same feeling with all the glowing crystals and stalagmites and pillars. Also in the cave are 4 blue star chips for Mario to find. Once he collects these 4 and the 5th one at the end of the cave pull stars appear around the end of the island. Mario can use these to advance to the final section of the level.

Cue top left image. After using the pull stars Mario ends up near the lake with a island in the middle. Mario can then explore the top of the island. As he explores he finds to very tall plateaus but is unable to jump between the two. So he goes to find a switch that can help him. He finds this switch at the bottom right of the island next to the smaller lake. When he hits the switch it will create two platforms for Mario to wall jump up and then long jump to the taller plateau. On this plateau Mario finds a large crystal that he ca break and free the star.

Well i hoped you enjoyed part 1 of 8 of my design frenzy. More to come either today or tomorrow, and throughout the next week. If someone thinks they can model this very well in the next week please tell me soon, or else I'll model it. Also please note there are lots of palm trees and other tropical things in this level that were not included in the drawing.

So good cosmological, you've made amazing progress.

Cosmo it looks great! I would like to see a better angle in future designs however, kind of like how AL did Sky High.
Either way though it looks like you put a lot of thought into it! Good job

Indeed, a side angle would be a little helpful. :) But the model will take care of that eventually. Keep up the good work!

Only issue I have is breaking the cave entrance with a shell. Not only has it been done before, we don't have any breakable walls like that in SMG2. I'd rather have the player enter via pipe or something not done before, like needing to crouch under a crevice to get in.

o.o crevice crouching would be cool as long as it's fairly obvious. Later on we could have a secret crouch tunnel but here it shouldn't be a big challenge to find.

What about backflipping onto conspicuous ledges. Once you reach the top ledge, the camera shifts and shows the cave enterance.

Crevice crouching was used in SM3DL and Wind Waker, so we should use it. :)

I will conbine the two udeas. You backflip onto various ledges. The top ledge has a crevice that you must crouch in.

Edit: Crouching would not be a bad idea gor obtaining a comet medal.

To be honest, we should do backflipping, as it is underused in SMG/SMG2

Cosmo is currently making the model for this galaxy. Backflipping onto a body of water might be cool to see.

Cosmo, if you are able to, would you mind adding an area where backflipping or some other high jump mechanic is required? If not, that's okay since this is your design.

Oh, and isn't there an animation of Mario diving into the water via backflip? I sort of remember this in SMG1

I think it works in SMG2 too. You had to stand on the edge of the platform facing water, then turn around and high jump.

If it is, I think this would be the perfect galaxy to utilize it. We would have to force a backflip though.

Well as a lot of you know I've been working on modeling my design for Coastline Cavern.

Its a tough thing to model being so natural so I had to learn how to make it look nice without making the poly count insane. I think this is a happy medium.

I've finished the general shape of the island. now all I need to do is add the top part and the cave with the star chips.

Hopefully it will be done by Sunday. (Also textures are placeholder)

What? Do you think that those awful textures are going to be in the game? >_.

Anyway cosmo, it looks great!
