Mine (Mariogalaxythree's) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwY_9MKmrnM - (also, be sure to turn the volume up, as my songs are rather quiet) Blaz's Neutron's Star Reactor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM6dGHcgRT4 So, there is now a bit of a controversy here. For Edge of the Universe, Blaz's Neutron Star reactor was the piece in mind. Recently, I made my own attempt at the song. Positive feedback for both has been present, but people seemed to be leaning towards mine. This poll was created because Glem3 likes Blaz's piece better. I contacted him asking him to do a poll, and he said I could. So here we are, and I will post both sides of the arguments (I can be unbiased if I want to - like now) Blaz's piece - Positives - Some people don't like to drift too far from a very successful formula. "Neutron Star Reactor" is an amazing piece. It is. It could have that "epic feel" to a final level that would make it more memorable. It also has some very good orchestration, and an extremely catchy tune. Negatives - First, the percussion some claim to be a bit iffy (quantanization). But that is a minor problem. The biggest argument one could make against this piece is that it could be called a "Clone" of SMG1's final bowser level. Originality is a key aspect of composing, and one could argue that this song fails that important aspect. My piece - Positives - You could also argue that originality is key. What I tried to do was be original, but still have enough of the epic feel and buildup to build more anticipation that keeps you listening, while not boring the listener. One could also argue that there is a lot more variety and ingenuity. It barely relies on past SMG stuff before. One could argue that there IS no precedent for Final Bowser themes, because SMG1's and SMG2's were VERY different. Negatives - One could argue it lacks a tiny bit of the SMG feel that Neutron Star Reactor has. And possibly, they could argue that the song's buildup is tad bit too slow for their tastes. Either way, both pieces will be in the game, so it's not a HUGE loss to whoever loses. Please Vote and may the force be with you  ____________________

Hmmm... I must admit, while I love blaz's music, I think while his composing skills are amazing, his SMG pieces lack a lot of originality in terms of the melody. This can be seen in Radiant Moon (sounds like Sky Station Star 2) and in Grassland (Melody is quite boring IMO)
So I vote mg3 for originality, despite the amazing SOUND of blaz's piece Ninja'd by Agent Yeah mg3, GET THAT SOUNDFONT IT IS AMAAAAZZZINNGG You might just beat blaz as a composer with that Ninja'd by Agent AGAIN |

:/ It's much more than the sound of the instruments, Blaz's just feels like a final level more. It gives the appropriate feeling for a final level, even if it has a lot in common with SMG1's final level theme. It's more catchy and memorable, I enjoy MG3's track but I can't remember any of it, on top of it not sounding like a galaxy piece in the same way that Blaz's does.
Edit: Also, the only thing that Blaz's tracks have that are "unoriginal" is that they sound like galaxy tracks. They use similar instruments and have similar tones to them. While MG3's track doesn't sound "galaxy" to me, if I heard it, I would think it's a good track, but I definitely wouldn't think "This is a track for a SMG game!". Also, MG3's piece simply doesn't work with the pacing of an SMG level. All these things would have to be fixed before thinking of using it for a level, not even the FINAL level in the game. TL;DR- This is about which would sound the best for a Super Mario Galaxy final level, not "which is more original!" or "which sounds more epic!". What will work with the pacing of a level, and what sounds like galaxy. Here, Blaz's piece is the clear winner, and I could 100% imagine it being a real track from a galaxy game. |

I know exactly what you mean, and that's the debate here... going of of what you are saying, I would then suggest that mg3's is used for bowser battles, and blaz's goes for EotU |

Yes, however, there is another piece that MG3 did that could fit the earlier bowser levels, so maybe a balance?

Well Glem, have you compared Blaz's piece to Bowser's Galaxy Reactor? The similarity is so noticable, it even shows in the melody. It almost feels like a do-over of the song. The whole structure, mode, intro, and just the feel makes you think Galaxy Reactor. ____________________

The intro is similar. The instruments are similar. The actual composition? Different. Obviously inspired by Galaxy Reactor but nothing negative in that.
It's silly not to like something just because it bears resemblance to another great thing. They're similar because they're both final level themes and they're both epic tracks about Mario about to face Bowser for the last time. Following in this line of thought, I'd rather have something that's better but less original than something that's worse just because it "feels different". Quality is most important. |

Yes. But, Neutron Star Reactor would be PERFECT for Final Frontier. Here's why. Final Frontier's job is supposed to make you "think" its the final Bowser level. So it would have a more traditional design, and more traditional music (star reactor). But EotU is supposed to be a major curveball, and the music should show that. Keep in mind people won't know about Eotu till after Final Frontier.
EDIT: I feel NSR is more copying than borrowing. I take music classes so I know this stuff. ____________________

Why do you guys not like it that it sounds like Galaxy Reactor? Galaxy Reactor was an epic theme, and to hear something similar is very nice. |
