Yeah, I also need one. I tried about 10 but they all suck ;~; so I have to use Quicktime Player, which also records outside sounds.

If you're recording (full screen) games:
Fraps
If you're recording regular computer usage (such as my Riivolution tutorial):
Camtasia
Camtasia is a complete recording suit with an editor to do zooms, annotations and such.

Both programs arrrren't for free.

You can try using VLC.
In the advanced open box, select capture device or whatever, then tell it to record the screen.
This works pretty well in VLC on Linux and I guess it'd work on Windows too.

Well, I use Fraps when im on a good PC, and I use Bandicam when im on a slower computer.
Fraps records in great quality, but it uses a lot of cpu and makes huge uncompressed filesizes.
Bandicam uses less resources, it is still good quality and filesizes are smaller.

Heres something else I tried that uses much less resources, but is more expencive:
If your PC has an HDMI out, what i do is connect the HDMI from the computer, to an HD PVR. Then the HD PVR's USB will connect to another computer you might have laying around, and it doesnt have to be powerful.
Problems: your PC must have an HDMI out, it should be a laptop, not many people have spare PCs or laptops, you need an HD PVR, and yoy need an HDMI cable.
Good: You can record your games lag free! You can record with the bitrate you want. The HD PVR will only record the gameplay/screen and sounds in the computer, no outside noice, you can use yhe HD PVR for consoles like I do with my ps3, and as I said before NO LAG!

Edit: I just remembered that VirtualDub is free and can record screen, even though I never used it.

Sorry for double posting, but theres a really good screen recorder called dxtory. Its easy to use if you know enough about your computer (how many cores your cpu has, how many threads, how fast your hard drive is, etc.)

I just stream with join.me. I'm pretty sure that qualifies as a screen recorder. :P
Status: It was really, really fun, guys - thanks for the ride!

That's a screen sharer, not recorder.
