It sucks

I didn't want to post it in the basement subforum because it is important to let people know capitalism, particularly the unregulated kind, sucks.

How did capitalism screw you over recently? To me, capitalism made Mario Kart Tour happen, and that game's the worst Mario game in the series.

Capitalism also made my sister pay hundreds of dollars for an ambulance ride. If she didn't have insurance, that'll go into over a thousand.

On the other hand I'm able to get $1000 dollar in YouTube ad revenue per month the past year, all from one video. Somehow. Nowadays, we're getting like $600 and got a low dip in January, but lol we have like $6,000 in savings just from one video. We could've gotten more if we just turned on monetization earlier. To think, that video didn't even get that many views in the beginning, it just had a view spike several years later.

well, if they like wasting their money on that.

then again they're probably the same kind of young-boomer who'd piss on me for making a laz0r fundraiser.

welp.

Tell me about it. I had YouTube revenue of like 1,000 per month (a little lower nowadays) and my sister and I have to pay more in taxes than Jeff Bezos or Bobby Kotick (CEO of Activison), which is pretty disgusting. There's no such thing as a self-made billionaire. They didn't *make* billions, they just *take* billions.

Kinda defeats the point. Also you need money to live otherwise you can't exactly try reforming the system that's exploiting you and others.

and this is why I wanna be self-sufficient. just to escape part of the system and enable myself to actually use my money to achieve things and enjoy the only time alive I'm gonna get.
water and gas can't be helped, but producing your own energy, food, equipment, ventilation, all of these are possible to à fair extent if you try in the right conditions. people don't believe in that philosophy, and instead end up fully reliant on the system.
admittedly, this mostly applies if you live in a mostly permanent home. if you're renting and moving from place to place, investing and moving equipment becomes too much for you to handle. should you ever buy a home though, you really ought to want to try aiming to invest in one of these options. solar and wind energy are pricy but I believe that if done right it will pay for itself and then more, helping you save up. it's just a matter of figuring out your options.

there's more examples such as energy generated from water currents, but those are entirely dependent on ownership of the land for the rights to build equipment. in a city where everyone owns everything, it's just.. not possible. cities are the embodiment of "If you do anything on grounds I own I will shove you in court"

IDK you can try to generate all that stuff all you want but if you don't have a place to live, you can't do anything about it. Speaking of which, the cost of rent is abominable around the U.S.

I only prefer renting because that's what we're taught in 21st Century in our school. I can't be bothered to learn more about house buying than I already do now. They don't teach us how to buy a home just how to rent one. I also get basic maintenance since I don't exactly own the property which simplifies my choices about food, equipment, etc...

I'd only buy a house if I had no other rentable home to turn to. I'd have to plan out my savings big time though before something like that happens though.

That being said, I only have a basic idea of how capitalism works. I can never figure out how each kind of system works.

Renting is already ludicrously difficult to achieve in the first place, so I imagine much less buying a house is just out of question to begin with.

The house I live in, in suburban California, its worth, it's like, at least half a million iirc. I don't really get to appreciate how relatively well-off I am I think.

buying a house?

aahahahahahahhh

yeah that 'just' means getting a mortgage, which basically means you'll be chained down to your job for 10-15 years

or get some cheap place but then it's a) all crapoed and b) in the middle of no-fucking-where and you need a car to get anywhere or do anything.

heh.

don't even get me started on getting any kind of stable job, let alone one that pays well and isn't utter shitpiss and doesn't make you want to kill yourself out of despair.

housing must become an unconditional right.

oh, I never said buying. I don't see it as a smart choice, either.

but if you can get your hands on a living space, you can rent it and make some.. reaally easy money. it's basically a game of luck and.. inheritance, I suppose.

Well owning a house is nice if you want more freedom and control over your home. Such as installing or hardwiring something. But if you just want someplace to live without worrying much about maintenance then renting an apartment/house is good.

We bought and I think we're nearing our payoff so soon the house'll be ours and we won't have to worry about foreclosure anymore.

So there's that I guess.

apparently I'm supposed to get some money from crapo-grandpa's house once they manage to sell it.

I know I had some fortune from my grandparents in France that managed to help my family get this suburban home in the first place, so lucky me I guess? Even then, a decent paying job has been stagnating in wages while taxes particularly the property one keep raising, and we're making too much money to qualify for the safety nets.

Thierry
Posted on 02-24-20 05:13 PM Link | #98584
those safety nets are kind of treacherous. you're threatened by taxes and yet you can't apply for financial help because you make "too much money". it's hard to count on them considering they have all the excuses to take it away if they feel like it.

are you at risk of having to give up the house, or are you not there yet?

isn't it amazing when you're 'too rich' for financial aid yet too poor to be comfortable

like if I wanted to study, how the hell would I pay? my parents would be considered 'too rich' for the scholarship. yet, they can't pay my rent and all. (and I don't want them to)

It's a really sucky spot. Yeah. I want the safety nets to be expanded to accommodate more people. I'm pretty sure that's what leftist policies advocate, while also trying to keep a cap on rent and stuff. Not sure what controls property taxes. Nevertheless, while those are actual solutions, they're just shot down as socialism or communism by conservatives. They that think that my parents should just work harder or I should just get a job even though I'm still learning skills and don't want to invest time in a job yet, and finding jobs is onerous and excruciating too. The right-wing mindset, I just don't get, like they live in a fantasy world where problems are simple, solutions are super quick easy, made all on an individual level, and don't require a broader, more systemic scale of changes.

Arisotura

that's the tenet of neoliberal ideology: that the system is 'fair' and 'everything is individual responsibility'

which is bullshit

Hm on capitalism, why does my sister have to pay 40 to renew a driver's license? That's stupid.

Thierry
Posted on 02-27-20 02:45 PM Link | #98604
because people won't do you any favors if you don't give them money.

also, 40 every how often?
