This is the main design thread for Still-Life Galaxy!
Some ideas include

Because this galaxy is half dead on one side of the planet while alive on the other side, we can have some interesting concepts. I think there should be a ring of planets that are half dead and half alive like the Goldilocks zone in the solar system

--In the middle there could be a large star providing life to the sides of the planets facing it.
--Some of the planets could be spherical with one side being alive and the other being dead.
--There could be some larger flat platforms with flowing streams of water on the close side and lava on the other (I know that is against how physics works in real life, but this is Nintendo)
--Have some ghost level themes on smaller planets further out in the solar system
--maybe a quick section where you go to the central star.
- cosmological

I think it might be cool to include some saucer or peanut-shaped planets that use the same alive-dead theme.
- Astroluma

I had this idea for the plant life in the level. Growing tall plants on the Alive Planet will create alternate 'dead' versions on Dead Planet. The Alive versions of the plants would be tall and vertical while the Dead versions are tilted over and horizontal, for wide gaps.

Alternatively, killing plants on Alive Planet eliminates the dead versions as well, for getting rid of plant-based obstacles on Dead Planet.

Guys, I know that there are a lot of great ideas here but... switch use should be kept to a minimum. Really, all the design needs to be is something gusty garden esque with a twist. One half alive, one half dead. We don't need to make a bunch of complicated puzzles so long as the gameplay is good, which it certainly can be without switches. Imagine that you can only work with custom models, no animations/switches, and see what you can come up with first
-Glems thought on the matter

I was thinking about this galaxy yesterday, and I had a few ideas. Using the two sided planet concept, we could have bee mushrooms on one side, with ghost mushrooms on the other. The mushrooms could be required to make progress on the opposite sides. Since this is a late galaxy, it needs to be quite difficult.
-Seems MC might be interested in working on this

With that said, if you have any other ideas, feel free to post below!

I've been thinking about the Toad Brigade visiting this galaxy.

Possibly, IDK. It's up to MC :P

So it's certain that MC is designing this galaxy?

I suggest an area where you have to lure a bunch of boos to the light side of the planet and kill them. Once you do, the dark side could light-up and a beanstalk could grow :3

Actually, it doesn't seem like MC is designing this anymore. He has enough things to design already.

Hm, the only thing I must say is that the planets don't need to be grass on top and dirt on the bottom. Get creative. Also, we could have mirror planets, and inbetween, if you go inside a planet (drill?)

Totally Drill here, I love the idea of switching from life to death with the drill.

For the life side:

Goombas
Koopas
Octogoombas
Etc. life enemies

For the death side:

Pumpkinhead Goombas
Dry Bones
Octoboos
Etc. death enemies.

Yeah I never said I was designing this :P

Oh, finally, a galaxy that isn't reserved :P

Anyway, I really like the idea of going inside planets here :D

from the sound of it SSL has an interest in this, however this is only based on the little amount of text he has posted and is no way based on fact

0.o Maybe we could have Major Burrows as the boss of this?

EDIT: 1100 posts and fire bro that looks ugly ;~;

IDK, I thought it was being used in ground growth or something. IDR. I'd have to look

Well, it'd probably fit more there than it would here...

I do....not really have an interest in this galaxy, maybe later.

EDIT:

Yeah I kinda do.

Mood swings. Make up your mind SSL.

I do, sometime, I wan't to create it.

And I could use MrRean's model.

NWPlayer123
Posted on 01-21-13 06:24 PM (rev. 2 of 01-21-13 06:31 PM) Link | #8615
MrRean's model isn't gonna be used at all. It's way too low poly and not SMG standard at all. NO. I forbid it.
Anyways, think outside the box for this. If we're gonna use blue grass for the life part of the level, it better be pretty damn fitting. Get creative.

Defintly using the Spin Drill to switch from life and death.

O.o That would be...interesting....to say the least.

As in, going inside an alive planet to reach the dead interior
