Both. You could possibly enter circuitboards to enter the data.

Just a thought: We can be VERY meta with an in-game Wii.

-Ground-pounding the power/eject button can freeze the game (TERRIBLE I know, but someone would explicitly warn you not to do such a thing).

-The Star could be inside the Wii in the center of the disk drive, but you have to navigate past obstacles on top of the spinning Super Mario Galaxy 2 disc to get it.

-Doing a spin attack while on top of a Wii Remote can flick off whatever's sitting on it to advance. However, Mario must first get from one side to another to ground-pound the Remote's power button to do so.

- The game's box-art could serve as a slide, possibly to land on the Wii.

Most of this isn't even possible xD

Like I said, just a thought.

The Star being in the center of an SMG2 disc is probably possible. Can we use the slow-motion switch thing, or is that specific to another galaxy? Slowing down the disc could be an interesting idea.

The disc should have the SMG2.5 logo.

When we get farther along, we should add more stuff to the custon SMG2.5 disc like Mario carrying a shell and Luigi laying down next to Lumas.

Mario could access the game disc data and traverse on game files. The background would have the filenames of the different backgrounds seen prior to Digital Circuit, the platforms would be made of the filenames of different platforms seen prior to Digital Circuit, etc.

Let's not go too far with this...

Well, just the background would be made of background filenames. I like the idea of the game refering to itself.

Then a computer chip planet would be awesome.

Then a computer chip planet would be awesome.

That's already been suggested, you should read the whole topic before posting.

the binary code in the background sounds kinda neat, just don't make it really bright colors.

Well in the Wii the background should be binary 1's and 0's, but in the SMG2.5 disk the background should be background filenames as I suggested earlier.

OK, so there is a giant Wii planet and you enter via the disk slot. In the disk slot, you are on the motherboards will the shocking blue area. There is a time-slowing Ground Pound Switch for slowing down the SMG2.5 disk. A hidden warp pipe is revealed on the disc that takes you to the disc's coding. There, you do platforming on binary code and filenames of the game.

Hey guys, I just made this demo of a 3D model of SOMETHING we COULD use in this level in some kind of way.... maybe.... Take a look at it. Its not that good right now because its just a small test design... But here. http://s1277.beta.crapobucket.com/user/fnargod/media/DCG1_zps997d9326.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2

Good, but as you said, it is not complete. Those two green platforms resemble poison water over anything. But, I can see where you are going with the prototype models.
