thing is, they follow the obsolete trend of "blue for boys, pink for girls".

the available gender options also largely fail to cover the complexity of gender.

but, I like the possibility to choose from a few name color presets.

it's part of Acmlmboard.

I also like the idea that we can tell who is staff based on their name color.

so... dunno? we can rename the color presets?

I like the way you can tell from colours the staff and normal users. Though I feel that maybe we could gender-neutralise by only having the N/A colours if that's what you're getting at.

instead of boys and girls do males and females problem solved
I kinda like those new color names, but I guess change "Purple" because it's more pink than anything.

Oh I don't read well. Lol.

I agree with the choice of different colours instead of gender/sex choice. Though isn't sex different from gender, and Acmlmboards typically are going by identified sex rather than identified gender? :P

Why not sort them by power level? Once would see all the possible colors for an user.

By sorting them that way you take away the gender related stuff ;P
Though the colors would need to be named, but it shouldn't be that hard?

Like:
- Normal users: Blue, Pink, Purple.
- Local Moderators: Pale blue, Light Pink, Soft Red.
- Global Moderators: Light Green, Violet, Green.
- Admins: Light Yellow, Magenta, Yellow.
- Root: Mild Blue, Mild Pink, Mild Purple.

Or you could just put the hex notation lol. Or just remove the table or something and section it that an "(power level) user might have this colors"

Things like the banned color is universal, so it could probably go along the lines that mentions about someone using a custom color.

How about a mix for both? Like having the color mildly customizable (within a range of colors depending which base color you pick, dunno if it's feasible)

I'm against completely free color pick (it defeats the point in having colors in the first place) but I'm not against mild customization.

I was not too fond of the per-gender color, but I do like having my name pink AND my gender set to female.

Regardless, the simplest solution for this is to outright replace "gender" by "name color".

Didn't you mean the other way around? because you can do that right now :v

But yeah, sounds nice. Username color & profile gender should be separate so you can use any of those 3.

I like that idea. editprofile.php could be presented like that:

Name color: | • DerpyUser22DerpyUser22DerpyUser22

(along with custom color field for admins)

(or custom colors for everybody??? to consider)

also, gender isn't a very meaningful option to have, but could be a profile info like realname/location/etc. to keep things simple it would just be another field you can fill with whatever you like. gender sorting would be removed from the memberlist, too.

"to keep things simple it would just be another field you can fill with whatever you like."

Good idea. I actually quite like this, most forum software only specifies Male/Female/N-A.

This could be mitigated if the behavior when you highlight an user displays the user number, name & the powerlevel.

Or more options for regular users to choose from.

Yes please. Also add an option for random colors, i.e. every time you load a page your name is a random color between #000000 and #FFFFFF. How sweet wouldn't that be?

that sounds pretty shaky, because sometimes you could end up with a really ugly color, or a staff color

not practical imo

I don't like the idea, it would make differentiating normal users from staff members much less easy. And even blacklisting staff colors doesn't keep people from putting colors that are almost the same as the staff colors.

Is it that important to know who is what kind of member based on their username color? Just wondering.
