I suggest having an area with no music for part of this galaxy.

No. That'll already have been done in EotU.

Maybe not no music, but just some extremely ambient music (just a low pitched sustained note and some chimes) could also work

Guys.

STAY ON TOPIC. THIS IS THE LEVEL DESIGN THREAD

Meh. Might as well post the progress

The first thing that Mario notices when he lands on his main planet is the crazy amount of fog everywhere. To the left of where he's at, he notices an old bill board. If Mario talks to him, he will say the following:
"TURN BACK NOW! One wrong step and it could mean the end of you!"
When Mario starts walking around, he notices that the ground is rather wet. A few feet behind the Bill Board is ground that's not the same color as the ground he's standing on. The area behind the board is lighter and than the area he's standing on. If he steps into it, he will slowly get sucked in and lose a life. If he was a little more careful, he could've noticed a piece of lumber in the bog that seems to float on it. But, judging from the distance, he doubts he can make it there through even long-jumping. He must go around the border of the deadly and foggy bog planet and look for something that might help.

As he looks around, he notices several Hanging Spiders hanging from one of the branches of the great tree that seems to be in the middle of the bog. If he uses them as platforms, he can reach the formerly unaccessible log in the bog. When he lands, through the fog, he notices an upwards hanging spider-case. Unlike last time, however, there are Choppahs moving around the trunk of the tree, and you'll have to time this right if you don't want to get hit by a Choppah. Along the path of Hanging Spiders, you'll see a question mark coin, and collecting it will cause a series of rainbow notes to appear. After about 15 notes, the path of spiders ends, and he will land on a circular log mini-planet. The rest of the notes are around the edge. If you manage to collect all of them before they vanish, you are rewarded with 3 1-Up mushrooms, who spawn right in the middle of the planet. If the player is done, he can take the launch star in the middle of the planet that's been waiting for Mario for a bit too long.

Mario's ride through space is pre-determined, which means that he passes through tons of fog; And he notices that he's passing over an ugly bog, which looks like it'd kill him if he tried to stand on it.

So Mario has to spider-hop with no platforms in between each enemy? Normally I'd say that's too hard but I suppose it's fine for W7.

It's just like the Soarin' Stus part in the Secret of the Hotel Lobby. Problem is, Hanging Scuttlebugs have no predetermined path. What if you bounce on omce that swung toward you, and the one you need to reach just swung back? That requires precise platform with an uneven possibilty, which will result in failure of the level design, not failure of the player.

I think Hanging Scuttlebugs would work better as hazards above a narrow branch; you get hit, and you fall in the muck.

...yeah...Hanging Spider platforms would be much too hard.
Polari...I don't think that's a good idea, too be honest.
So this part takes place on a moon of the main planet or something...right? It should be a rather easy and quick part though.
The main level should land Mario onto the central poison swamp, like a labyrinth with 3 exits, but with the other 2 exits requiring a pipe (which is locked). So Mario has to unlock them one by one: a foggy mountain range, a foggy forest and a foggy cave (?), perhaps?
And maybe a fourth path leading off a foggy clif. :P

The short moon part could be a continuation to Boo Moon's crescent moon. It should only be slightly longer and allow Mario to roam freely (no restricted sidescrolling). The only hazards are poison-filled craters that are easy to avoid.

Mario could unlock each exit by solving a puzzle after traveling through a foggy poison-filled labyrinth.

I'd prefer to have a full 3d moon planet

Here is my idea for the round moon:

It is more or less the same size as the moon in Sand Spiral. However, it is obviously covered in fog. It features craters filled with poison water, green plants, and Scuttlebugs on the ground. A Launch Star is a crystal on the other side of the moon.

Um, wasn't Sand Spiral's moon like, really small? Couldn't you get to the other side of the planet just by long-jumping?

If the moon is bigger, the idea might work

Yes, definitely bigger. As for what size, I haven't thought about it yet.

Since a Bouncy Snakeblock might be too hard for Toxic Terror, it has been suggested that it be used here instead. I personally think it would be great to use here because the fog would be an added challenge along with the Snakeblock's trampoline effects.

We're getting way too off track here. This is supposed to be a bog, a lot like the poisonous locations of world 3 of Paper Mario: Sticker Star. No silly snakeblocks :P
Unless you can think of a creative way to utilize them in the level, which you currently are failing to do.

But didn't Agent say on the Toxic Yerror Level Design thread that the Bouncy Snakeblocks would fit better here?

It doesn't matter what he said, we need specific objectives to have the player complete. I do think that snakeblocks could fit, but you have to explain why, give evidence, like you'd do with any valid reason for anything :P
My suggestion would be having a giant lake of poison, and you have to cross it using this, while avoiding Scuttlebugs and such.

Yes, using Snakeblocks while avoiding Scuttlbugs should be used here. Maybe it would be too much if they were bouncy. Another thing is having the Snakeblocks split into seperate one block thick paths. The fog would prevent you from seeing far and you would to make quick manuveurs. Of course, the seperate paths won't too far away so that you can still make the jump.

Yeah, but I think one block would be far too much. Save that for SMG.

It might be cool to use snakeblocks, actually. Climbing a giant, dead tree would be fun with snake blocks.

Codybean1 made a drawing of Foggy Bog that had lanterns in it. In Boom Bunker, there was a moving that would dip on the dark matter.

This galaxy could have illuminiscent platforms that are stationary, but alnost completely dip into the poisonous water. There could also be non-iluminiscent platforms so that the fog can also pose a challenge.

Except actually utilizing the light would be the hard part since it would have to be very dark, and I don't know if light affects the fog object. It might, someone needs to test it.
Either way, it would be cool to use for atmosphere.

On a second thought, moons might be becoming too overused like Snakblocks.

A sprialing staircase made out of a tree trunk perhaps? Or are staircases becoming too overused? Meh, it might be nice to have a tree or a dirt thing extending high up into the fog,
