Hi there! I'm the new adult kid on the block.

A few months ago, I wrote a tool that converts Maya ASCII animation data to J3D joint animation data. (BCK) Supports the following games: Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, LoZ: Wind Waker, Super Mario Galaxy 1/2, Pikmin 2, and whatever other game that utilizes JSYSTEM on GameCube or Wii. So far it doesn't support tangents, but I'll get to that in the future.

Required:
- Maya (I've only tested this with Maya 2014; feel free to try any other version)
- BMD model used for the animation
- A semi-functional brain

Results:

Have fun!

Well MR. New Adult kid on the block. YOU'RE certainly welcome here! ;)

I'm Super Hackio, the New Whitehole dev and Leader of Team SpeedDash.

Nice program. It says that It'll work with SMG1/2. Have you tested this?
And would it work with Blender? SMG1/2 Use BDL. But BMD = BDL 2.0 soooo....

This is pretty crazy actually. Mad props, many projects will benefit from this.

Holy crap this is GREAT!!!

Ever since I saw this, I knew it would be only a matter of time before this would be possible. Now we can do custom animations AND possibly new cutscenes!

Keep this up; don't let this die. We believe in you man!

(I'm so happy right now!!!) :D

EDIT: also there's a severed Peach head in the background of the first gif. ???

BMD actually came first. The only difference between BMD and BDL is that BDL contains an extra chunk that has pre-compiled GX commands to speed up the rendering process.

But BDL = BMD 2.0 is what I meant to say. I accidentally switched them. :P

Would it be hard to switch the converter to convert to BDL instead of BMD then?

I suppose. OBJ2BDL already converts models straight to BDL; BMDCubed converts them to BMD but you can easily convert them to BDL with J3DViewer

Oh...

The only problem is the limitation to MAYA models...

Blender models don't work.

Do they really not work with Maya?
Hmm, odd. I could have sworn the model I used was exported from Blender

The point is Maya costs $$$

We shouldn't have to spend more than we need to.

You can get cracked Maya. Or, when I get my new PC, I might be able to give you my old copy of Maya, if you need it. I will get my PC hopefully this week if not next. The thread about it is in Computers and Technology.

Can't you simply get the students version for free?

Also I have bad experiences with Maya :P
If you have to animate crap for a DS game and one vertex can only be affected by one bone you get frustrated pretty quickly. I guess that'S not a problem with GC/Wii games tho.

I honestly never use Maya. I just have a copy laying around somewhere. I find Cinema4D easier to use.
