This isn't really all that interesting, but I've been looking at the files of some Switch games, particularly ARMS, and I've found some cool small details. It looks like all pre-rendered videos in games are just MP4 videos that you can play in any program on your computer instead of weird proprietary things like bink video or whatever. Couple other interesting things I found: Nintendo uses Jenkins, and the "Nintendo SDK" has an "NX addon". ARMS was built on April 7, and in ARMS there's a GameConfigSettings.xml that appears to be debug settings. Also, for some reason each different camera movement used in the game is contained in its own file for the camera preset.

BotW also uses mp4 video files. Also on the Wii U.

It also uses Yaz-0 compressed *.brres files for models and *.tga files for all raster images.

I also anticipate that other games (particularly 1st-party games) will follow these conventions, especially the use of Targa raster images.

How did you get the files?

I had to find the files online because the tools to dump Switch games aren't public. Then I used this script to extract the RomFS.

You used the script to do whaaaaaa?? To extract it? With the rom files availible for download, do you think a 2017 Switch Emulator is possible? Im so excited for Mario Odyssey rom hacking. :D (I am aware that wont happen for a while, but a switch emulator would be the first step..

ROMs have been dumped and extracted, but it'll probably still be a while until we get a Switch emulator. The console itself still hasn't had userland code execution done, and as far as I know, the hacks that work right now don't work on later versions of the firmware. I'm actually hoping it takes a while to make an emulator because if one came out this year the console would be ded

Not really. Most people don't even know what an emulator is.

Also I guess Switch emulation wont happen very soon and wont progress fast.

IIRC the switch is built on 3ds stuff and we all know how long it took to get halfway descent 3ds emulation.

I haven't followed 3DS emulation recently, are they still struggling to run games faster than half speed? 'Cause from what I remember, people making videos of Citra would just speed it up to 2x speed and reconstruct the audio from samples of the music they found on YouTube.
