For some reason, I keep pronouncing the game as "Super Mario Obesity" when I don't read the text.
Perhaps because of their choice of such a hard word to remember?

Odyssey isn't that tough of a word to remember IMO. I think about the Greek mythology or that Honda minivan.

I wouldn't be opposed to Super Mario Obesity, especially if it stars Wario, though.

Abe's Odyssey, anyone?

For some reason Super Mario Obesity creates a picture in my mind of Banjo in nuts and bolts running around in SM64.

No, not doing SM64DS hacking, just here for the waffles.

I think of the Greek mythology "Odyssey" and other literary works with Odyssey in its name. But mostly, I think of a voyage on a ship.

I kinda feel like they went for 'Odyssey' to make people think it was Galaxy 3, because 2001: A Space Odyssey is a thing in pop culture.

It's Odyssey because the game has an epic Galaxy-like scope.

Seriously, did you hear that trailer music? Sounds like the second coming of Gusty Garden.

But the gameplay itself is clearly a successor to the open world style of Super Mario 64 and Sunshine. Doesn't really remind me of the linear Galaxy gameplay at all.

Nintendo intentionally made it in the style of the first two games. They even have an official distinction, where 64, Sunshine, and this game are one style, and Galaxy, Galaxy 2, 3D Land, and 3D World are in another style.

Pretty much since Galaxy, we're guaranteed to get amazing Mario soundtracks. Like, very amazing.

The next step is adding licensed music.

I'm part of the minority who doesn't like how it looks so far, but I will give it a chance. However I will say that it looks really unfinished, and I hope the end of this year will give Nintendo the time they need to finish it.

It also looks like they are going waaaay too far trying to be unique and I don't know how I feel about it.

Though, with this new fangled HD rumble it would be cool to feel fireballs coming out of your hands, or feel yourself carrying a turnip.

I don't see how it looks unfinished. The only complaint I have is that the city graphics need to be polished up. I'm sure they will do that by the holidays.

Also I doubt there will be a Fire Flower in this game. I suspect there will be non-conventional hat based abilities instead.

what's wrong with people having opinions :P

Nothing wrong with that. I guess I'm just really defensive towards this type of game. I have always wanted another open 3D Mario like 64 and Sunshine, so when 3D World was announced I was really, really negative about it, despite other people defending the game.

So it's kind of the opposite situation in this case. I've turned into the defender rather than the criticizer because Nintendo finally gave me what I've been wanting for a long time. I'm pretty much a hypocrite.

Not going to lie, I'm actually really excited about this game. Mainly because it's a 3D Mario game. Judging by the trailer, I think it's pretty clear that there are going to be a lot of unexpected twists (e.g the lion thing, the upside pyramid, the pathway of flowers that appears in front of you, etc).

Sorry for the maintenance -- we'll be back soon!

I'm hoping the graphics will get better since I changed from my inital impressions. This game looks very rough from the screenshots alone. It does look better in motion, but I've seen better-looking games.

I couldn't care less abut graphics. I'd take this game if it were on the NES!

Opinion Time! This game looks like a fucking masterpiece. It's not even out yet, and it's already my favourite 3D Mario! :D

I actually think low-polygon models look cool, in a way.
I've started to view it as more of a form of art, rather than a limitation,
which is why I like porting MKDD tracks, and such to MKDS.

Agree 100%. I don't know if it'll end up being my favorite 3D Mario, but TBH it already looks better than both Galaxies and especially better than 3D World.

This Game looks far better than ANY of the other 3D Mario games.
Let's hope it has a good plot. :P

Personally, I really don't look for a plot in Mario games, I moreso care about the worlds and exploring them.
