So, driving. I'm not sure if it works the same way in other countries (we all know what country I'm in anyways), but here you have a million types of drivers and some are good, some are bad.

Friendly Driver
The driver that lets everybody merge, stays where he/she should be, obeys the traffic signals, isn't flying past you at a million miles an hour...

The Asshole
Never lets anybody merge in, honks their horn if you don't go the second a light turns green, as if it will make much of a difference, yells at you, sticks their middle finger at you, and speeds by.

The Speeder
We all know that one person that speeds all the time. They fly by you, not having a care in the world. They don't use blinkers when changing lanes, they make dangerous lane changes, etc...the person that you laugh at when they're pulled over by a cop down the road.

The Distracted Driver
I'd hate to be in the car with one of these people. Texting while driving, answering calls, catering to other things other than the road...we all know those people. I was rear-ended around January and the excuse she gave was "the sun blocked my eyes", but from where she was sitting, nah. She was tall, so the sunlight was from her chest down, so that's BS. Just wasn't paying attention, that's all.

How about odd traffic laws? In New Jersey, if you stay in the fast lane for too long, you get pulled over. That's what happened to somebody I knew.

so yeah, talk about yer drivin experience here

>the asshole

Welcome to Paris!

We got to saw a good example of distracted idiot once, the guy had his bare left foot resting next to the wheel. Hope he had an automatic transmission (probably not, manual is ridiculously popular in France).

"I was rear-ended around January and the excuse she gave was "the sun blocked my eyes""
Not even an excuse. You have sunglasses and other sun blocker things to avoid exactly that.

Anyway, I had an accident with a kind of speeder while I was practicing. Didn't help my self-confidence, even though the guy was in the wrong.

Was entering a big, fast, double-lane roundabout. The driving school idiots tell you to go on the left lane if you're going to travel through more than half the roundabout. On these fast roundabouts, it's a big mistake-- if you stay on the right, you only have to watch the right lane and you can enter the roundabout without too much trouble. But if you go on the left, you need to enter when BOTH lanes are 'good'.

So I tried to get back to the right, ugly maneuver but no issue there. I managed to enter the roundabout without trouble.

Then a guy came from the left, trying to snatch the next exit, and I inevitably crashed into him.

The damage to the cars was minor. The damage to my self-confidence was greater. I stood there dumbfounded, not knowing what to do, not standing up for myself or anything. Good thing mom was with me and took care of the situation.

The guy tried to lie, selling it off as "you abruptly entered the roundabout and didn't let me priority". Which was full of shit as we were already well entered in the roundabout.

Oh well.

There's no law about the fast lane here, it's just said that "you should be in the rightmost lane", but staying in the fast line isn't punishable. This is bound to happen during traffic jams anyway, people try going as far as possible by taking up all the space available.

I haven't driven a car or anything since I got my license. I don't like driving. Really feels like you constantly have to care about everything, which drains my energy. And even then, I fear getting into some horrible accident where I end up stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. You have no control over what idiots do.

Admittedly, this could also happen while not driving. I guess I should stop envisioning worst-case scenarios.

Driving school hasn't helped me either. It's really like, if there's as much as a pebble on the road, OMG SLOW DOWN ASJHFGSJKDKASHGAJHKFGSHKFHSD!!!!!

Fun side note on horn usage.
Theory: you use the horn where there's imminent danger. ie when an idiot is about to back into you.
Reality: you use the horn to yell at idiots. Which also includes the aforementioned case anyway.

As a last fun note, a sign screwup that happened in the shithole: (it was corrected the next day tho)

Well. I can't drive yet, so no experiences like this. And not much goes on in Australia, so my parents haven't really been in many of these situations either. There was one time this idiot sped at like 200kph behind us right into us. Fortunately (for us) we had a giant 7 seater beast which left his small car completely wrecked. Luckily no-one got hurt, and the crash wasn't nearly big enough to have any effect on me.

You're exaggerating if he was going 200KPH. You wouldn't be here if that was the case. if it caused no injuries, I'd say 72KPH.

My mom said that people in France view driving as competitive, so she was surprised when she was in the U.S.

Anyway, just today, I saw two drivers were serving in and out like crazy. They both happened to be men, huh. They probably fall into the "speeder" category.

I also encountered a pickup truck where NONE of its back lights were working, so I kept a pretty big distance behind it. I was tempted to pass it, but I was patient.

I remember I was at a right turn at a light, and the woman behind me honked at me, even though if I took the left lane, I'll block the intersection, which is the place I want to go to. People aren't very smart or patient when they're driving, which is a huge shame.

People love to use the horn, it's probably one of the most misused devices on a car. You use a horn only to avoid collisions, not to make the guy in front of you go, not to yell at other drivers, not to alert blind people, etc. Using the horn to agitate other drivers increases the chance they make yet another mistake due to the panic.

What about the one that goes past the stop sign on every school bus and almost kills the child walking off of the bus?

Reminds me of mom's story driving in USA.

She was at an intersection with STOP signs at each way. Every time, people from one of the ways would pass, and after a certain number, yield to the next way.

Sounds really nice.

In France you sometimes have to engage your car to the point of nearly running into someone else's. In a crowded intersection, the implicit rule is one-one, but some dickbags swear by the official priority rule and are going to go to any length to enjoy their priority.

So you know that one trick with Checkers? The one where if you set it up right you can get like half of the other guys people out. The trick is like this Zig-zag thing.
Well just think of each Checker piece as a car, now think of that trick I just explained as another car. This car just was just holding the honk thing and just zig-zagging through each car..man like people seriously need to be patient..

PEOPLE WHO USE NO TURN SIGNALS. GAH.

In other news, I hate driving with a passion but am forcing myself to learn because I live in a small town far from actual stuff in the most car-dependent country on Earth.

I only like drivers who let me cross the street on the apposite space instead of "LOLGUY IGNORE LOLOL" (i mean people acting loke i am completely invisible) smartasses.

Also, i hate distracted drivers who don't notice the green traffic light and still on stop, especially when i have to go to the toilet -.-

Pokémon Go and driving = distracted drivers. We've almost been involved in an accident because someone wasn't paying attention on the road.

Well, sure, but it gets people out about and active. I can't tell you how many people have gone outside more, to just the downtown park for example. Though some people decide to cheat and hatch eggs faster and whatnot via driving, which aleays leads to consequences.

People going out more is pointless if all they do is gaze at their phone instead of socializing.

In fact, it does bring up conversation. Random people start to talk to you, and you talk to other people, as you both have a common ground, which is Pokemon Go. You start asking about what Pokémon they just caught, etc, and you get to know them better as well. It's a happy environment, and the game is a great conversation striker.

Also, it's great for exercise nevertheless, don't overlook walking daily.

Please steal my phone? You must live in some dangerous place, man.

The park is supposed to be a safe environment, and there are police patrolling it too. Also, when everyone has an iPhone 6s in their hand, welp, it isn't steal my phone anymore. Particularly if you have an Android as well.
