It"s horrible to see Microsoft going even far away with that abusive things just because they made an abusvie EULA, I can"t even imagine what are they goign to do next.
Just this kind of things keep me completely away from Windows 10 at all.

they're bringing the smartphone commercial stench to desktop computers. don't let them normalize it.

How to set up your new Windows 10 PC?
Correct way:
1. Uninstall Windows as soon as you get to the Deskop.
2. Install a Linux Distro.

The wrong way:

I tried to upgrade from Windows 7 during the "free upgrade" period, and it almost BRICKED my laptop! I literally had to boot recovery tools of a USB or and SD or something!

And now we officially know what Microsoft exactly collects with Windows 10.
I need to warn you, you might find this list shocking.

And knowing Microsoft, this might possibly not even be the complete list yet.

oh, and you thought that Microsoft would stop desperately pushing Windows 10 after the end of the free period?

haha, nope

Your PC uses a processor that is designed for the latest version of Windows. Because the processor is not supported together with the Windows version that you are currently using, your system will miss the important security updates.

the wording is utter fucking bullshit.

x86 is x86, no matter which OS you use.

anyway, if you try to keep your actually useful OS up-to-date, this is what you get. every boot.

installing updates manually doesn't work.

Microsoft wants to turn your PC into a consumer toy.

I could very well see them breaking your Windows install or rendering it useless in the near future.

also, apparently even Windows 7 isn't all good anymore. they say that the NSA's hack for getting into any Windows computer was leaked.

soo... we should use Linux where applicable.

the tech world is turning to shit. it's time for us to build our own world.

wouldn't that mean if i used it for lower versions, it would be alright too?

Wait, you genuinely never knew?
Windows always had a fuckton of backdoors for these very purposes, it's just that Windows 10 doesn't keep them top secret anymore (Microsoft can't anymore, because Edward Snowden).

Wait, you genuinely never knew?

hurr fucking durr.

I've always doubted Windows wasn't safe, but as long as the methods aren't available to the average joe, things are atleast 'not that bad'.

oh well.

Microsoft wants you to believe otherwise. Microsoft thinks you're an idiot. Microsoft wants you to use their consumer toy OS.

I'm studying PHP, but I cannot access Codecadamy, because it fails to connect. It was working just fine yesterday, and I can use it on other devices, and successfully reach it through a Proxy. Though for some strange reason, I cannot access it through normal means. No matter how many times I restart my Computer, close Chrome, and reset my Router, it fails to connect.
I even attempted to reset my TCP/IP, and that didn't work either, even when I did it manually.
Chrome says that one, or more network protocols are missing on my computer, but that can't be the case, because it was working just fine yesterday, and I didn't change anything.

well sometimes updating the windows to the latest version can bring up some changes or config that aren't right like in the case of preview versions of the windows . you should either try restarting your pc or changing some network settings .. you can refer this article for more info : http://errorcodespro.com/fix-one-more-network-protocols-missing-windows-computer/

At this rate they"ll only cause some users to leave if they go further with that model of only Windows Store apps.

... how come we don't have a thread about that yet

regarding my opinion, I'll just quote a post of mine from Jul:

Posted by StapleButter
So we have computers at home that run Windows 10, been watching that for a while and here are my feelings:

* mom always badgering me about how retro I am everytime this is brought up, as if I was using Windows 3.1. I'm not switching to 10, accept it and shut up, thank you.

* half the time, those computers are getting updates that take ages to download and install. And it's mandatory now. As if Windows Update wasn't annoying enough.

* "all your files are exactly where you left them", "we are preparing your computer", etc... Windows 10 is creepy. It feels like Microsoft is here, right in your computer, watching you and trying to communicate with you.

* It takes the decision to delete your shit without asking you. No thanks. It's like if your bank took the decision to give some of your money to random people behind your back. Also further reinforcing the feeling that you're sharing a computer with Microsoft and not really owning anything.

* the windows are ugly, hell, even Windows 3.1 looks nicer (and is more customizable and trustable). But I guess that doesn't matter, eventually your computer is meant to become a giant smartphone. Although it'd be silly to name it Windows if it doesn't have windows anymore... right? Might as well rename it to Skynet or something.

* "please wait while we are setting up shit" "oh and check this out in the meantime"... yeah, and what happened to progress bars? Or showing the user what is actually happening? Microsoft goes further in pretending the average user is a moron. (even if many are actually morons, maybe educating them is better than turning PCs into baby toys?)

* Does Windows 10 have anything actually new? Doesn't seem like it. I mean... Windows 7 already does everything I want and more. So why bother switching? Hell, even ye olde XP already does everything I want.

Sooo...Where along the line does the cyber-rape begin in Windows?

Read the whole thread, every single page reveals shocking facts about Windows 10, and sometimes Windows in general.

But I seriously never understood why Windows needs to reboot for most updates to get installed, which can often take between a few minutes to 2 hours, depending on what it updates...
I'm using Manjaro Linux here, which is based off Arch Linux (I can even convert myself to Arch Linux whenever I please to, without re-installing the OS), and updates are almost always installed on the fly, even the Kernel gets patched while I'm working, and no reboot is required for that (although the patches will be applied after rebooting, but there's still nothing and nobody telling me to do so).

Not to mention that I can customise every nanometre of my MATE desktop, so it looks nowhere like the other PC with the same OS and DE.
It's the freedom what makes PCs great.....and both Microsoft and Apple never understood that...

They patched XP again.

Anyone else here hoping this is a sign of things to come?

As much as I'd like that to be the case, it's probably just a security measure given how widespread that cyber-attack is and how many organizations it affected. I recommend reading up on it and how it was possible, since it used an NSA exploit in Windows to infect machines, and I seriously recommend patching the vulnerability in your system if you haven't already. That is, unless you don't use Windows, in which case you can just grab some popcorn or something.

I have a feeling Microsoft might use this to their advantage to further push Windows 10 rather than drive people away from it. I mean, although automatic updates suck, anyone with automatic updates would probably get the patch for this exploit immediatelly and wouldn't have any problems afterwards.

I'm sorry to disappoint you sir, but no, that doesn't mean they're going to revive Windows XP.
