That Edge scheme reminds me of how Samsung phones cheat to get their super high benchmark scores (or Android phones in general).

and you get similar shit everywhere. remember that Microsoft's test is automated.

see also: Volkswagen, and they're not the only ones. Pollution laws keep getting stricter, but they're unable to make clean engines, so... they recognize the standard test sequence and severely underpower the engine so it stays under the pollution limit.

The standard test sequence should be coupled to a randomized, unpredictable test. Any major difference between the two results would reveal the cheat.

Well, it's harder than that.

At least my dad (who tests phones), says that if a Samsung phone detects you're testing the battery, or anything else like that, the processor will actually run a bit slower (it's automatic and happens to any one of them) and if testing the benchmark, they will like overclock it or something. Since these processes are automatic, you can't randomize it.

This could be applied to the Edge test.

I've recently picked it up after my other laptop started to bend strangely and won't go into sleep mode when closed. I will admit Windows 8 isn't as good as Windows 10 and XP. BUT, it is way BETTER than Windows 10 when compared.

It may just be me, but one time I was clicking on the shell icon (I also used ClassicShell) and it stopped responding. Shutting it off fixes it. Turn it back on and it sometimes froze on me. I even looked up a video on how to stop it and then it shut itself off like Microsoft hated me to fix it. WHAT DID I DO TO YOU MICROSOFT??! And the icing on the cake is when it crashed on the loading screen. Yes, on the LOADING SCREEN. The computer is aware that I shut down too much since it shows this blue screen showing a few options. But one time, it showed 2 shades of blue. Perfect.

At least the laptop I got had these problems. I may just be the only who has got it. So if you guys don't have these problems, well then my laptop sucks.

Edit: Turns out ClassicShell was the reason. Not sure who to blame here, but I hope it still works.

I use X for replacing some default Windows thing!
Oh no, replacing the default Windows thing is not so good! This is all Microsoft's fault of course!

To be fair, it is Microsoft's fault that the Anniversary update apparently causes startup crashes and/or Taskbar unresponsiveness starting with second boot post-upgrade.

Good luck winning. This is pretty outrageous, though.

the bigger a company gets, the less moral it becomes

Microsoft was never moral. they have a long track record of killing competitors and stifling progress in favor of their monopoly.

fun fact: in the early days, Office was faster than its competitors because it cheated -- it used undocumented APIs.

And Classic Shell isn't easier to use than standard Windows 8.1 by cheating and using undocumented APIs...?

EDIT: Actually nvm, Classic Shell only uses them for cosmetic purposes.

What does Classic Shell have to do with my post?

It, too, uses undocumented APIs.

EDIT: Or something. Also nvm, just realized what a stupid question that was given what it uses them for .-.

Arisotura

The point was that Office used them because the APIs were 'kept for Microsoft', if you will. They could use them to do shit fast. Meanwhile, their competitors would have to use the public APIs and be slower.

ie. Microsoft cheating to make their product better.

Anybody not Microsoft will have discovered undocumented APIs via reverse-engineering.

...right.

So uhh...not directly related to Windows 10, but who else here hopes to stick with something that isn't Windows 10 until ReactOS becomes viable for everyday use, then switch to it, rather than using Windows 10?

Oh yeah, ReactOS. MIDI performance really sucked after Windows 7, but now there's a patch that you can apply to apps to make it run even faster than before. Since I work primarily with MIDIs, I'm fine on Windows 10.

Oh, do you know the latest 5★ new feature Microsoft added to Windows 10 recently?
They fucking changed the way the Power button works!

Normally, when I press it while turned on, my Tablet would go to sleep mode.
But now, it fucking shuts down without any warnings!

*Clap clap*

Right before work, I've put a link on my Forum, listing a whole lot more Windows 10 problems than what we were talking about here.
For the ones interested:
https://itvision.altervista.org/why-windows-10-sucks.html

It doesn't only show many problems in Windows 10, but also a nice bunch of problems with Windows in general.

So 2 days ago, I had to record a few Wii U videos.
I wanted to record both, the TV and GamePad screens, so I would need 2 Elgato Game Capture HD Pro 60 devices, and therefore, 2 PCs running Windows 10.
I already have my old tablet running it, and I was planning to sell my old iMac (2009 model) anyway, so I decided to install Windows 10 on it for a weekend.
Done, running, good.

After recording all these videos, I turned it off.
The next day, I realised I forgot to record 3 more videos, so I turned on my iMac again.
Guess what? It didn't get passed the boot screen anymore!

Once done loading, I heard the computer shut itself down, and turned itself on again.
Then it happened again, and again, and then the automatic repair function started, which solved nothing.
So I ended up re-installing Windows 10 from the ground up, just to record 3 fucking videos...

It might seem all funny to me, but in reality, it's actually highly concerning.
While I installed Windows 10 on a 2009 machine on purpose, and I only did it for a single thing, there are way more people with old computers to whom Microsoft tries to push the OS to likewise old machines, without their knowledge, and the PCs most likely are already filled with personal data.
I can therefore understand it's totally not funny for those people at all.

For your information, yes, I know Elgato runs on macOS as well, but I was running Linux before I've put Windows 10 on it.
I would have used macOS for this job otherwise...

Welcome to my life, on my late 2006 imac, shutting it off and turning it back on shows the ? folder icon, and if it wasnt for my rEFInd boot menu it would never boot, as the mac thinks theres nothing...
